Now Republicans are bracing for DeSantis to keep his promise and haul them back into a special session, worrying that he might hit the campaign trail and use his popularity and the bully pulpit to bring election-year pressure on those who bucked him.

“DeSantis has carved out his own lane in the GOP: the Voldemort lane,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, a Democrat who clashed with DeSantis over Covid lockdowns and who was involved in Democrats’ redistricting efforts in 2010.

Republicans in the Legislature say they were taken aback by DeSantis’ power play, with one describing him as being hyperfocused on redistricting compared to other issues.

“In meetings, he would just demand: ‘Pass my maps! My maps! My maps!’ He’s just bizarrely obsessed with this. He won’t let it go. He won’t listen to reason,” said a Republican who didn’t want to criticize DeSantis publicly.

Probably good outcome aside, it is good to see an executive willing to threaten legislators with primary challengers. Presidents and governors have largely been too cowardly to play their appropriate political role since 1936. This boosts my confidence in DeSantis for 2024 or 2028.

As a so called constitutionalist, you should be against the consolidation of executive power at the expense of legislative power lmfao. Of course you aren’t a constitutionalist, just a fetishizer of what you believe is the constitution, but of course you don’t actually believe the constitution is the constitution. To you “consitution” is more of an ideology that can be best described by a nice house blend of tribalism, sociopathy, anti-community values, contempt for Americans, and a little touch of historical revisionism for flavoring.

Weird to think DeSantis map really only has 3 true Dem packs. Everything else is less than Biden + 20 iirc

Florida political geography more than anything. This still is an egregious gerrymander, Florida just seems to not have the same degree of geographical polarization as most other states and when you combine that with the VRA districts and the physical geography, a "true" pack is hard to make.
