lol...well yeah I kinda figured he had to be fdr's first vp...but didn't know his story

Right wing Dixiecrat, hated FDR, coined the phrase "the Vice Presidency isn't worth a bucket of warm spit" (the press corps changed the original line's "bucket of warm piss" to something printable) and constantly tried to undermine FDR.  FDR eventually got sick of it and replaced him with the equally problematic from the other direction Henry Wallace.

There's a lot of alt-history stuff about what would've happened if the assassination attempt in 1933 on FDR had succeeded and the right wing John Garner became President instead of Roosevelt.
