My thoughts are with the Norwegian people today.  I hope for justice and I mourn the dead.

It's hard to say something that isn't trite and inane, but I do feel for the people of Norway.  I just wish there was a way to do so that wasn't cliched and trite.

Please keep partisan bickering out of the mourning thread.

If you think this is bad (and elements of it are, obviously), just don't look at the comments thread over at CiF.

Seriously.

The thread over on SA has a "mention Islam, get probation" rule, which sounds pretty good right about now.  Seriously, some people have this bizarre inclination to go screaming "Damn right-wingers" or "Damn Muslims" or "Damn environmentalists" or "Damn anarchists" every time something like this happens, rather than "Damn sociopathic mass-murderers."  Does it even matter who this guy was and why he did what he did?  Does that change the nature of this tragedy?

Prior to the shooting spree, when it was just the bombing, I thought it was probably jihadist.  The shooting is so out of character for jihadi violence that I stopped thinking that at that point.

Exactly.  I can understand not having the death penalty, but not having some option to permanently remove dangerous people (that isn't the cop-out "stick him in a psychiatric hospital whether he's crazy or not" thing)?
