In scandals like this, denying everything is probably worse than the original act itself. Just like lying in politics is bad when it is likely that you'll get caught.

And Guttenberg has probably lied about not having plagiarized anything twice now.

Well, maybe he has lied about it more than twice.

There is also the possibility that the doctoral thesis was in fact ghost-written in which case it's possible that he didn't actually know anything about plagiarism.

Plagiarisations on 62% of all pages so far? Makes we wonder if anything is actually from Guttenberg himself. Or his ghostwriter. (I can't believe that he was actually so dumb to put together a thesis mostly consisting of plagiarized parts. So assume that he paid someone to write a thesis, and that someone simply knit together various pre-existing texts. So Guttenberg made a very bad decision when picking a ghostwriter.)

Now that the media has run their usual circus and forced him out....can we please stop hearing about this in every news program?

I wonder if this would have turned out any differently if Guttenberg hadn't blatantly lied about his guilt when the scandal first came out.

Perhaps. He didn't really handle the whole scandal very well. As always, the denial comes before the resignation.
