How come the LibDems are so strong at Cornwall?

Tories are the English landlords (Cornwall has historically been separated from England), and Labour are the evil city-dwelling socialists.

How does one concoct "notional" results to calculate swings in seats with new boundaries without individual polling place results from the last election?  Anyone know?

I don't believe that those calculations are made by laymen.

So, a question for the Americans here- how do you like our election results?

I feel vindicated about this being a two-horse race all around.

That map on the floor thing was pretty cool, but the rest, ehhhh.

I apologize that we don't have will.i.am being a hologram in the BBC studio.

I would like to state for the record that I do not watch CNN.

I say disband the U.K. if the Tories take England but get a hung parliament due to Scotland.

There will be a referendum next year.

The exclusion of Bangor from the district makes Aberconwy fall to the Tories.

Conservatives gain Aberconwy with a swing of 7.6% from Labour.

So how high do the moron...speculators intrade bid up the tory majority chances this time?

37.3.  Compared to no majority with 69.9.

If you're a gambling man, buy no majority.

This is starting to look bad for the Tories. Combine that with a shell-shocked Liberal Democratic Party, and pherhaps its time to say hi to Prime Minister Alan Johnson.

This is my first time watching a British election.  The punditry is interesting.  I keep waiting for a result, but they just aren't coming.  Why is it that our congressional seats seem to come in faster?  It's a smaller country.  They need to have some jingle everytime someone wins a seat and have some people doing some drama.  Also, people aren't doing power speeches like ours do and they don't have entrances with music.  Also, what's with the "state fair winner of best looking swine" lineup?  Why does the winner have to hang around with all of the losers?

So you want to take away everything that makes their elections good?

Which seat do LD lose? Because all it shows on declarations is a hold

Montgomeryshire: Öpik's seat.

Who was the guy behind Cameron in the white suit and a giant yellow bow?

Yellow bow would be the Liberal Democrat, unless it was one of the joke candidates.

My God this is depressing.  I just give up, looks like we'll lose seats this time around.
Listen my man, this is a rough night for me too, trust me. But if we dont rally up and keep the movement strong, itll only get worse. You never know when a BO for the LibDems will show up, and we must be strong for when it happens. Smiley

Why do you like the Liberals?

Fake socialist.

Co-op sponsors candidates on the left. They're effectively an interest group within the Labour Party.

Libs are to the left of Labour on many issues.  In the very least, they're more left than Labour is.

Don't be silly.

You're the one being silly. The LibDems are clearly to the Left of Labour on a number of issues.

Yes, but they're not to the left of Labour.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/2432632/UK-General-Election-2010-political-map.html

The lack of color-coding for the NI parties besides Sinn Fein is annoying too. Don't the DUP have their own color anyway, some type of maroon?

My advice is to use a different map.

Are we over-estimating the difficulties that will face Cameron as a minority government, even ignoring the possible support of the Unionists? The Conservatives in Canada have governed for four years with a minority government and they've been doing alright. And of course, in NZ with MMP, most of their governments are minority governments these days, and again things work there fine.

In both Canada and New Zealand, such things are part of the system. Also, I suspect Labour will be more effective than the Grits, who are good for absolutely nothing.

My count of the results if a German-style system is below. These results assume the Tories win Thirsk and Malton, but do not take account of the vote there. European Parliament constituencies are used for states.
