Ho ho very satirical.

I presume the difference between Jacinta and Jacinda is more than just one letter, then?

Even so, are a lot of more "traditional" indigenous people really going to vote against?

Rather falls into the "will believe it when I see it" category for me.

Has any TV show done more damage towards political punditry than The West Wing?
The Thick of It?

Not as well known overall?

Of course, many of the worst types adore both.

Discussion of the "Voice to Parliament" by Elizabeth Byrne.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-05-14/high-court-voice-to-parliament-referendum/102302322

"No matter how people vote in the referendum, they should know what they are voting for."

That maybe applies more to the Brexit referendum than this one.

I wouldn't cut short a trip to Japan to meet Albanese either.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-05-20/joe-biden-and-anthony-albanese-meet-at-g7/102372694

Respect to Biden here. Albanese is a pretty unimpressive Prime Minister compared to the great like Howard and Hawke.

I like him, and so do quite a few of your fellow countrymen it seems.

A 95 year old woman from Cooma died after being tasered by police last week.

Quote
A 95-year-old woman who was Tasered by police at an Australian care home, sparking a public outcry, has died.

Clare Nowland was critically injured after police responded to reports she was wandering around the home with a steak knife at about 04:00 last Wednesday.

New South Wales Police (NSW) said she died "surrounded by family and loved ones".

The officer who Tasered Mrs Nowland has been charged with assault.

The 33-year-old senior constable will face court in early July on charges of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

He remains suspended from duty with pay while investigations continue.

Mrs Nowland lived in a care home in the town of Cooma about 114km (71 miles) south of Canberra, Australia's capital city.

I mean, what??

I keep thinking of our own 80s pop starlet David Van Day when his name is mentioned.

Apparently the ALP had to be rather pressed into standing a candidate at all.

Latham really is a fascinating case study, but not in a good way.

Seems to be a power trip from Pauline Hanson and the federal executive. Australian minor parties can have very vicious infighting due to the requirements for seperate state parties and a national executive, which can get rather cliquey.
One Nation are exceptional even by that standard. Of the 35 members elected/appointed, 20 left the party during their term, often very early in it.

That is positively UKIPpy.

At this point, I'm convinced that you're either racist or stupid.

There is some correlation between the two tbf.

Someone is going to get hurt in 2025. Someone may even be killed.

Most likely by the people who went to the Sydney Opera House and chanted “gas the Jews”.

And that goes to show how little you know of Australia

Indeed. Australia is a country where the most right wing Prime Minister it has ever had was able to address a crowd of gun nuts and tell them what a load of idiots they were and then subsequently pass legalisation that severely cracked down on guns. It is not the United States.

Tony Abbott says hi Smiley

Though yes, this is mere quibbling with your (totally correct) broader point.

Yes, will be a very interesting one.

Will the recent downturn for Albanese/ALP in polls be reflected in real votes?

Premier of Queensland resigns.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-10/annastacia-palaszczuk-resigning-as-queensland-premier/103211112

Annastacia Palaszczuk oversaw a boom in the Queensland economy and also an explosion in juvenile crime and the like.

Let's be honest here, as it's an Australia-wide problem. The explosion in juveline crime should be put at the feet of the government who was in power for most of her time, the federal Coalition.

Meclazine has described Tony Abbott and Barnaby Joyce as our greatest and most respected political minds. He doesn't want to hear anything about the Coalition doing bad things.

I mean, what a pair Cheesy

Good f**king riddance to the worst Prime Minister in the history of the nation

He was indeed awful, but its still got to be close between him and Abbott for that title.

The left can mostly live without culture wars most of the time, but the modern right cannot.

Tasmania is the last state in Australia currently controlled by the right, so their losing it would be a significant and even historic moment. Have there ever been "clean sweeps" of this sort before (ie the same tendency in power both nationally and in all states) even if only briefly?

This seat was securely Liberal not that long ago, which makes it an even better result for the ALP.
