Since no one else seems to want to run can we go ahead and start the voting process?

I will abide to the 48 hour limit to give people full time to announce.

In the meantime, I do believe we should endorse a candidate for the upcoming special election. While we will not be running a candidate in the race, I think it is important as a party that we weigh in, especially with questions of Senate balance in question.

I would prefer to wait another day...if you all don't mind. There may be another candidate entering.

I have great respect for Gustaf, but do you think it is wise for Gustaf to be running? If he somehow wins that would mean there are four DA candidates in the next At-Large Senate race and that would mean we will most likely lose two or more seats.

You've got a point...but it's still illogical to not run for a seat because it might be lost a couple of months later.

Umm...people, don't we have a party rule that DA candidates ALWAYS get the endorsement?

I have been reluctant to make any public endorsement in the last couple of days for several reasons. I respect both main candidates in this national election, and I wouldn't have a problem with having either one in the Senate.

At this point, however, I am formally offering my support to former Senator DWTL. From my experience in the Senate working with him....I know that, despite his rhetoric and annoying tactics sometimes (Wink), he is willing to work with his fellow senators and find reasonable compromises on many issues.

That said, my main reason for supporting DWTL lies in economic issues. I am a strong supporter of free trade, and many of these agreements are about to be on the floor of the Senate. I'm obviously no where near to DWTL's libertarian economics in general, but I hope that DWTL will work with me on other economic issues as well. I believe he will, as evidenced by our mutual work, for example, on the Help Atlasia Study Act. After making the legislation more friendly to regions and allowing them to determine the exact distribution of the education funding, DWTL did vote in favor, and I ultimately feel that that amendment to the legislation was superior to the original plan, so I'm grateful for that initial dispute.

Now that we have a clearly left leaning President, I think it's important to maintain a healthy balance of power between the legislative and executive branches of government, and I value our current Senate's ability to override potential vetoes on certain issues that enjoy widespread popular support.

None of this should be taken as an attack on Fritz or his political views. I am very confident that Fritz would also be an excellent senator that would serve Atlasia well. I respect him and wish him the best of luck in this and future races. My support of his opponent should only be interpreted as a single decision based on a variety of circumstances (political balance, etc.) outside of Fritz's control. Should Fritz be elected, I would also happily work together with him and my other fellow senators to serve Atlasia.

So now, after having said what I believe to be important right now, I endorse DWTL for Senate.
