I found out recently that Eraserhead was a groundbreaking film in terms of blurring the lines between diagetic sounds (sounds that are literally happening in the story) and non-diagetic sounds (sounds that the film-maker added into the movie that aren't literally happening in the story... for example, the musical score and soundtrack of a movie are placed on top of scenes, but the music doesn't come from a musician or speakers within the scene).
We see the line between diagetic and non-diagetic sound being blurred in a lot of movies, and it's considered very normal now, but apparently before Eraserhead, it wasn't something that films do. Kind of a random fact but I personally found it to be very cool.
