Video has been released of Thompson bragging "who better than me to do away with Medicaid and Medicare?"

The Tea Party managed to gift Republicans with an unelectable candidate merely by forcing him to say things like this to win a primary.

It looks like we could credit holds in MO and WI and the gain in ME to the Tea Party (for discouraging RINO Snowe from staying), while if we take MA and NV, that can't be ascribed to them.

Democrats may even be able to hold the Senate in 2014 if we can get net Senate seat gains this year.
We won't net gain seats the best we can do is keep it where it is at 51-2-47 winning MA,MO,NV,OH,FLA, and NM while losing MT,ND and NEB.

It's conceivable we net seats if we win NV, MA, and ME and hold MT.

When he first got the nomination I really thought Thompson was going to win this one

Have you forgotten his campaign for president?

I've forgotten it so much that I thought this was a Fred Thompson joke. But, no, Tommy's campaign was even worse.

It's funny how Thompson was so successful in off-year elections and now that he's facing a larger, more diverse electorate, he's struggling.

Looking back at Wisconsin history, the last time a Republican won a statewide election in a presidential year was Ronald Reagan in 1984 and Bob Kasten (narrowly) in 1980. Kohl won his seat in 1988 and Feingold won his in 1992. Ron Johnson could only be elected in a 2010-type environment.
