If someone legally purchases pornographic material, and stores it in their bag, which they bring to school, how would you punish them exactly?

Suspend them for a day, and get progressively harsher each time they bring it to school.

Suspension of students that do wrong, is a stupid punishment. It's just a day off from school anyway.

Sorry, left out a word.  I meant to say in-school suspension, which is just a kid doing nothing but work from 7:50-2:24.

Why?  What have they done wrong?

Let's say an 18 year old goes to a convenience store in the morning before school to buy cigarettes and pornography.  They don't use any of that stuff during school hours, but it's in their bag.  Who cares?

So long has it remains hidden, then that is fine.  However, if it enters plain sight, then there is a problem.
