How would former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court Cheri Beasley do as a candidate in this race?  I've been hoping that Stein would be the nominee, but if he decides to wait for the 2024 gubernatorial race would Beasley be a good fit?

Jackson is wildly overrated.  It's a shame Janet Cowell hasn't shown any interest in a political comeback--she's probably the best NC Democrats could do.  I also think Wayne Goodwin, Deborah Ross, and even Heath Shuler deserve some attention.  And Josh Stein, of course, but he seems intent on running for governor.

Edit:  Two other names come to mind:  Mark Davis and Cheri Beasley.  On further reflection, I think Cheri Beasley is probably the best candidate NC Dems could run.

Whatever happened to Janet Cowell, the former state Treasurer?  I think she'd be a great candidate if she wanted to try a comeback.

Also, I seem to recall reading some time back that Heath Shuler was thinking of making a comeback.  He could actually be a pretty good candidate, if not in 2022 then maybe in 2026.
