https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/526760-lara-trump-mulling-2022-senate-run-in-north-carolina-report

Quote
President Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, could become the next Trump on a ballot as she is reportedly considering a 2022 Senate run in her home state of North Carolina, according to a New York Times report on Thursday.

Three allies of Lara Trump told the Times that she has been telling associates she could run in two years to replace Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), who plans to retire at the end of his term.

Can Lara Trump win a Republican Primary in North Carolina?

For that matter, can she win a general election in North Carolina?

Wasn't she mulling a NY-2 bid before?

(Also, weren't there leaks that Trump promised an endorsement to Mark Walker in this race?)

Yes, she did mull a bid in NY-2 this past cycle. And there was polling (by WPA intelligence on behalf of the Club for Growth) that showed her flattening Rick Lazio in the Republican Primary.

She'd win. Dan Forest only lost by 5 points despite saying masks don't work and running against a governor with a good approval rating, while at the same time electing a homophobic, anti Semitic nut job as lt governor

D's are more enthusiastic about this Lara Trump than Rs are, don't you realize once Trump is gone, no one wants to hear Trump anymore. No to Lara Trump, just like Millennium Moderate said Lara Trump will win

Probably the one person who could beat Dan Bishop in a primary.

Oh my God! We could actually win this seat in 2022.

Run, Lara, run!

I endorse for her for the GOP nomination for this seat.

I also endorse a more competent republican to run third party.

Maybe she can get Loeffler'd, but since NC doesn't have runoffs, the democrat could win with a plurality.

Both of those candidates, especially Robinson, were helped by running in a  downballot race and therefore not getting as much public exposure as the presidential candidates. In 2022, being at the top of the ticket means that sort of thing will probably matter more.

Don't get your hopes up. This seat would be lean R at best for Democrats even with her.

I still think retiring Congressman George Holding would be the better option.

Anyways Burr was a Congressman before he ran for Senate in 2004 defeating Erskine Bowles.

Strong chance North Carolina will have another former Congressman moving into the Senate.

Walker is way more appealing to the Republican base than Holding, although the latter would probably be tougher to beat in a general.

McCrory might be another one that is interested in running.

It tilts D if and when Jeff Jackson decides to run but anyone else it tilts R. Cal CUNNINGHAM really messed up D's chances at majority.

Gideon is gonna be appointed anyways by Mills as long as Biden takes King for Homeland Security. King probably wants out of Senate anyways and don't want to stand for reelection In 2024

If she runs, the nomination is hers. The general could very well end up being the closest statewide race in NC history.

Yea, Holding is the better option, but he is less likely to run and less likely to win a primary. Western NC Republicans typically win primaries and Walker is closer to the base then Holding as well.

It is also worth noting that Burr is from NC-05 (Mount Airy to be exact), which is right next to Walker's old district so they come from about the same area regionally.

Yes- she would get the nomination...

But, she would lose by a couple of points in the general imo.

I also think State Senator Jeff Jackson will be the Dem nominee- and he will be an opposite Dem candidate compared to Cunningham.... Jeff Jackson will definitely overperform, whereas Cunningham has always underperformed (Cunningham was supposed to be a great US Senate candidate when he ran 10 years ago--- Only to underperform and lose in the Dem Primary, to a very bland Elaine Marshall).

Jeff Jackson has the x-factor that I have always thought Cunningham completely lacked.

Where is Jeff Jackson we haven't heard from him and especially not since CUNNINGHAM lost. He would have been more apt to run if CUNNINGHAM won, but Tillis surviving may have quieted him down quite a bit, since we haven't heard from him

Safe R now that we have the first GCB poll out: R+12. The Republican will win by double digits.

There is no good reason that he shouldn't have run and been nominated this year. Maybe Collins, Ernst, Daines, Cornyn, Graham and Sullivan weren't beatable anyway, but Tillis certainly was.
