Regarding Susanna Gibson, her mistake was trying to play the victim about the tapes being leaked. If she just said "so what" and focused on the other issues she might have been able to escape it. Instead, she blamed others for finding stuff that she willingfully posted online and it just looks pathetic.

If she were a Republican, she would’ve counterpunched on the issue and have not gone on the defensive. Probably would have called Owen a creep, ugly, and a loser.

As the Republicans seem to have focused on the line of the 15 week abortion ban, I hope Virginia Democrats are pointing out that Republicans don't deserve the benefit of any doubt.

In Florida, for instance, during the 2022 campaign, Ron DeSantis replied to Charlie Crist bringing up the Texas abortion law by lying 'this is Florida not Texas, we have a 15 week law.' After DeSantis and the Republican state legislature were reelected, one of the first things they did was bring the Texas abortion law to Florida.

Nobody should believe a word Youngkin and the Republicans say.

Of course, this is in addition to the Trump nominated Republican Supreme Court Justices themselves who defacto lied about abortion before the U.S Senate and the American people to get on the Supreme Court in the first place.

Half of my ads on YouTube anymore are about exactly what you are talking about. I think they’re doing a good job.

If the Republicans get a trifecta in Virginia, Biden is done in 2024. It's not looking good for the blue team.

If Republicans get a trifecta, 2024 starts off Lean Republican nationally and probably toss-up in Virginia but it’s unlikely.

VA is not going to vote for trump.

Maybe not in the end, but if things are really that bad and don’t get any better it might. But you’re correct. I don’t think that’s going to pass so Virginia will not vote for Trump.

Imagine if republicans get a trifecta in VA while losing the KY and MS gubernatorial races . Would Be crazy lol

What would be the emerging narrative? Maybe that so long as abortion isn’t meaningfully discussed or pols respect that it will be a right in half the country and a crime in the other half, politics are moving back to local issues.

Especially if Ohio ends up approving everything up and down.

co/efficient (R) once again has a tie

An R internal showing a tied race probably means Republicans might do well, but not get a complete majority.

Youngkin put everything he had on the field. If Republicans lose that's too bad, but they genuinely tried their best this year, so hats off to the VA GOP from going to almost dead 4 years ago to being a competitive force today. The state might be too blue to overcome, but its important that they gave it their all.

They serve as a model for people looking for comebacks in places like Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Florida, and Colorado.

Can someone explain to me why this is a bad thing? Wouldn't regular voters (like old people) be the ones most likely to vote early in any case?

Early voters are always a good thing, because a banked vote is of course better than an ED vote which is more unreliable.

I think what he's saying though is that Dems have pulled more infrequent voters to be early voters, which I guess is half the point of trying to do it (bank your reliable voters but also bank some infrequent ones who may not go out on ED) while the GOP has really only banked their regular voters and now has to rely on more infrequent voters coming out on election day.

The entire point of early voting is to remove the excuse and risk of “forgetting to vote”. This is huge for people with severe ADHD like myself. The only year I voted on ED was 2022, when I was on paternity leave.

Very disappointed that there aren’t a dozen posts here speculating on the effect that Northern Virginia’s weather will have on the election.

It’s perfect Global Warming weather today.

FWIW Susanna Gibson overperformed the fundamentals.  That was the best Dem result in the state in a Biden +5 seat.
Goochland really almost came through for her😂😂😂😂😂

Thankfully she lost Smiley
I hope she rightfully earns Queen of Goochland next time!!

You do realize she pretty unambiguously committed sexual harassment, right?  Like, the porn thing aside; that should be disqualifying right there.

WTF are you talking about?  She had a Chaturbate profile with her husband, that's it, that was all there was to the scandal.   Who the heck got harrassed by that?  Besides whoever received those GOP mailers maybe.

There was this accusation that she tried to make hotel staff see her naked but nothing ever came of it.

A special election will be held in she's deemed ineligible. Where does the Republican get off claiming I get the seat by default?

Biden +32.

I see Gov. Glenn Youngkin is picking up where former Gov. Jim Gilmore left off.  Good timing too:

Youngkin exploring repeal of 'hated' car tax

Quote
More than 20 years after then-Gov. Jim Gilmore failed to fully repeal the so-called "car tax," another Republican governor is preparing to take a swing at the local government levy on personal vehicles that Virginians love to hate.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin confirmed on Tuesday that he is considering proposals to do away with the local tax on personal property - which he called "the most hated tax in Virginia" - by finding new sources of revenue for local governments to replace it.

“It is despised to such a universal degree that there is nothing I hear more complaints about as I travel across the commonwealth of Virginia than the car tax,” Youngkin said in an interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“Eliminating the car tax is a complicated and challenging endeavor,” the governor said. “I believe there is a path to eliminate it, but it requires full cooperation from Republicans and Democrats, executive branch and legislators, local leaders and state leaders in order to take the big step of permanently eliminating this most hated tax."

And for those without a subscription to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The personal property tax may be hated, but where are they going to make the revenue?

Any "hated" tax exists because there isn't or wasn't a viable alternative for tax revenue.

It probably makes what? A few hundred million a year for the state?
