I wouldn't call him DOA yet, but Biden probably has the most downside of anyone else in the field based on polling. A candidate with universal name recognition to the primary electorate and 80% favorability without being severely attacked so far has nowhere to go but down.

In the eyes of his supporters, yes he could get away with it.

I'm not a supporter but I do think you over-inflate the importance of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. They're important in the primaries yes...But many of the far left types who would be outraged by Biden picking a white male VP represent a small number of Americans overall. They are not enough to flip the election.

I didn't say anything about progressives. I meant that his core supporters will pretty much go along with any decision he does.

Why the hell would he go? I doubt that many other candidates would if they believed that they could afford to do otherwise.

This is exactly right. The privilege of the front runner is to not have to go to these cattle call shows.

Especially since Biden knows it's not a Biden crowd.

If/when Biden's numbers go down, we'll be seeing a lot more of him on the road. Not until then.
Yeah after what happened to Hickenlooper I think he made the right choice.

What happened to Hickenlooper?

Unsurprising that the man who called Barack Obama an "articulate and bright and clean" African-American would issue such a tone-deaf response.
