A Republican winner in 2008- especially McCain- would make the recession that much more severe, possibly even starting another war. By 2012, I could see some kind of alternate Tea Party that first emerged during the Kerry administration throwing a wrench in the works and Bernie Sanders making a serious showing in the primaries if not winning them outright.
