Yes Breyer is retiring next year. Kentaji Brown Jackson was his clerk and everything should be good.

I still do like how he is panicking everyone even though it is obvious he will retire for the midterms.

Also by the way Breyer staying on could be beneficial to liberals. It might better to have an elder there who can maybe persuade Roberts and Kavanaugh to moderate their opinions for the upcoming term. A freshman justice would merely getting coffee and leaving all the work to Kagan .

Now obviously Breyer not retiring in 2022 would be extremely detrimental but the risk of backfire for staying on till the Summer of 2022 is very slight(death of a few specific senators )
