Was McBath ever at risk in the first place or is this a significantly larger margin than one would normally expect here? I don't have a good understanding of CD polling.

She has remained popular throughout her term and has run a good race.  It will be a rout over Handel tomorrow.

The concern will be for 2022 after redistricting.

She can just threaten to run statewide if they gerrymander her out.

Not a legitimate threat IMO, the best bet for her is HR1 passing.

GA is getting a 5th VRA district. She can always carpetbag down to South Cobb and run from there.

Or yeah a more specific and updated VRA with strict descriptions. The current VRA would require only 3 VRA seats in Atlanta, maybe after a lot of Appeals the SW GA seat too.

GA-6 was a district that Romney won by 25%, just so folks have a sense of how hard the northern ATL burbs have swung D under Trump. Mirrors my own political evolution too.

Think about it--this was Newt Gingrich's district.

I thought Newt represented a rural district. Is it just the same number?

Similar region and same number although very much gerrymandered.  The Old GA maps were quite a monstrosity . (RIP Tom Murphy. )The current ga 6th is slightly gerrymandered although the only weird part was due to an intra party feud with buckhead being removed and placed in the 11th.

The lines have shifted around a bit, but Newt's district was  primarily a northern Atlanta suburban district.

Actually during the 80s it was SW atlanta exurbs and rurals district, only in the 90's did it become a suburban northern Atlanta district when the Speaker wanted Gingrich out of his district.

Buckhead is not in the district, the richer part of it is in GA 11th because Tom Price(Old GA 6th representative) endorsed Nathan Deal's opponent in 2010 so Deal punished him by putting the Donors in Loudermilk's district. The more hipster and less rich part of Buckhead is in GA 5th.

The GOP should just give 6 and 7 to the Dems in redistricting and shore up the rest of their members. If they try to get another Atlanta area seat it could backfire later on.

Giving up GA  6th and GA 7th is a fair map not a gerrymander lol. They can both be shored up for the GOP, use those 75% Kemp mountain districts. By mixing in rural mountain counties you pretty significantly counteract the 2008 >2018  trend.
