My first vote was in 1980 for Ronald Reagan.

I liked Reagan's platform of limited government and strong defense.  I also thought that Carter was a terrible president and that it was actually dangerous for him to continue in office.  I continue to believe that, and that belief has been reinforced by his recent behavior.

I never paid much attention to Anderson.  I hated Carter and wanted him out, so I wasn't going to waste my vote on somebody who couldn't win.
He could have won if the Reaganites had gone moderate for Anderson.
I never liked the look of Anderson. Probably it's just an instinctive reaction to something about the way he looked...There are a lot of Elections where I would not have felt able to vote Democratic but 1980 is not one of them.
And I know that the American economy was in a mess in 1980.
