Seems like it would be incredibly lean and not very tasty.
It's quite tasty. And not that unlike beef, to be frank.

I never had horsemeat myself and I think you cannot get it here because it's not common (but I don't know really, because I'm not the restaurant-eating-guy).

Definitely never seen horse on a restaurant menu.

But I don't know what the big deal is about horse meat.
It is usually considered taboo in large parts of Europe in the same way that cats and gods are. There is also an ancient association with poverty (as horses are usually only slaughtered when they become too old to work... people don't buy meat from the knacker if they can afford to buy elsewhere.) And of course, it's a major news item in Britain atm.
