Japan opens doors to mass immigration

This is going to backfire. In the future when the Japanese are threathened to become a minority in their own country I wouldn't be suprised if there will be calls to reinstate Imperial Japan.

It could possibly backfire, as you said. But, if the government does nothing, there will be a loud outcry for immigrants as the population rapidly declines. It's a bit of a catch 22, especially for a country as ethnically and racially insular as Japan.
