I’m just gonna point out that I posted the initial breakage of this on August 2nd, but it wasnt discussed much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

A Senator’s New Wife and Her Old Friends Draw Prosecutors’ Attention

Quote
Mr. Menendez, the 69-year-old Democratic chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, under investigation by the Justice Department for the second time in less than a decade. His wife is also under investigation (for the first time)

The new inquiry, led by the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, appears to be focused at least in part on the possibility that either the senator or his wife received undisclosed gifts from a company run by a friend of Ms. Menendez, and that those gifts might have been given in exchange for political favors, according to two people with knowledge of the matter and subpoenas issued in the case.

The article goes on to say that the future Mrs. Menendez had struggled financially but now has “assets included bars of gold bullion then valued at as much as $250,000.”

This next Senate class will have really taken out the trash between losing Feinstein, Manchin, Menendez, and Sinema.

That's not to say thst we should get too ahead of ourselves and celebrate yet, we need to hold every seat outside if West Virginia next year to really get the most out if it-and that will be easier said than done.

Tbf Sinema was championed when she won, then abandoned all her principles for.. idk what

Bold move by Kim that has a high likelihood of working. Head to head he would be a big favorite over Menendez, by getting in first he has a chance of freezing out other challengers. You snooze you lose.

I doubt it’s any kind of bold. I would bet money that Kim was in talks with various party leaders and other NJ pols before jumping in. I doubt in a state like NJ he just went in guns blazing

A lot more chatter around here in the last few days: Tammy Murphy all but certain to run, Pallone closer to yes than no, Van Drew about 50/50. I've also heard some things about a yet-unnamed "wealthy Indian-American businessman from the Princeton area" who is interested, unclear which party (if any) they are interested in running as. The Indian-American population in New Jersey is formidable and this candidacy would have to be taken seriously, especially if the candidate is a self-funder.

Jesus christ, do Democrats want Menendez to win? Or are these people expecting him to resign? A primary race of Menendez-Pallone-Kim-Murphy sounds like a hot mess.

Menendez has a favorability of 8 I don’t think he can win a primary unless it’s splintered by 20 candidates

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/12/19/kim-murphy-polling-nj-senate-race-00132429

Kim leads by 23. It's an internal but that is still a very big lead. Hard to see how county lines would be enough to evaporate a double digit lead.

There were some early internal polls in AL which had Mo Brooks leading by a huge amount and we all know how that turned out.

That’s not a one to one comparison. Brooks lost Trump’s support which is what killed his campaign. There’s not really an equivalent to democrats

Vote was apparently not that close, 265 to 181.

Also Herb Conoway got the endorsement in NJ-03 by a similarly wide margin,  notable since a different and unrelated lady Murphy could be the frontrunner.

Schedule on for future conventions,  ones on the right seem to be the closed insider variety all but guaranteed to go to Murphy like Passaic earlier. These open conventions,  even outside of Kims backyard, may get more contested since Kim won quite handily:

What’s the different columns mean?

And of course some idiot lefties in the comments say that they will vote Murphy now because GENOCIDE!!!
These people are so stupid it hurts.

Kim will loose one’s of votes from them who likely weren’t voting in the primary anyway

I really don’t get the intense feelings around tik tok. Like it it’s a China spy app I’m sure it’s not the only one, but I really don’t care if it’s banned or not. What difference would it make?

NJ's AG view's the county line to be unconstitutional and won't defend it in court.

The New Jersey AG is appointed by the governor. So this is big big news, Murphy’s appointed AG is going against Murphy’s wife.
