It sounds to me like the people were basically trapped on the island with him for a while until authorities showed up and arrested him. He had plenty of time to walk around and indiscriminately kill people.

What kind of sh**t justice system has neither life in prison nor the death penalty? Did no one ever realize that this might turn out to be a problem at some point in the future? Or did the Norwegian parliament just assume that no one would ever be murdered in their country?

Breivik has admitted to killing people and acting alone, though he denies that he is guilty of anything criminal.

As for jfern, he hasn't said anything wrong. For Gustaf, it's important that the right and left are both always wrong, so that he can feel good about himself in the "center." It's pretty clear that this was a politically motivated attack, against the left-wing Prime Minister and young supporters of the left-wing party.

So now that the right-wing press can't use this story to demonize Muslims, they're using it to complain that Norway's prisons aren't brutal, rape-filled torture dungeons, like in the good old, high-crime rate U.S. of A.
