As per Section II, Article A of the Democratic Alliance bylaws and in my capacity as President of the DA, I call this convention to order, fellow delegates and members.

As per Section I, Article A, Clause 1 and 2 of the Democratic Alliance bylaws, the President and Deputy Leader must be elected or re-elected at this convention according to the DA's bylaws.

Upon conclusion of these votes, the President shall nominate a Secretary, who shall then be duly confirmed by the delegates.

When these formalities have taken place, voting on endorsements (in races where the DA has not yet nominated or candidate or does not plan to do so) and proposed platform amendments will be open.

I ask that the Secretary provides to the leadership an up-to-date account of the party's current membership to determine who is eligible for office and party votes.

Since no one else seems to want to run can we go ahead and start the voting process?

I will abide to the 48 hour limit to give people full time to announce.

I would appreciate if all candidates could address the convention and delegates with the reasons why they should be elected and why a party with our platform and ideas should endorse them.

On External Affairs, I side with your party on wide variety of issues such as gay marriage, education, the environment, free trade, and the war on terror.

ROFL. Gay marriage, education and environment are not foreign policy issues.

The only time I have ever gone after anyone was Mr. Xahar, and I think many of us understand that hacking is not appropriate.

Well, you did say that you wanted to waterboard me in the past...

Look, I will admit I can sometimes speak my mind to openly, but you did call me a Nazi/Hitler, which I didn't like either. But I don't want to fight about the past. I have no problems with you, Hashy, even if you did call me Hitler and leave my region. If I was nearby, I would give you a hug to show you my commitment.

Calling me Hashy doesn't help either Grin

OK, amendments are adopted.

I'll open the endorsements vote for the by-election in a few days, but first I'll let the candidates in the by-election speak to the floor if they wish.
