Opinion of the American electorate

The electorate as a whole more often makes the right choice, or at least an understandable one. The political class of activists, journalists, donors, social media hacks, and voters in low turnout events like caucuses or conventions, on the other hand... have awful instincts to a shockingly improbable degree and have been steadily pushing this country down the drain since at least about 2000.
