LOL. How many many times we heard that "democracy will be over" if Democrats don't get their way?

Every time I refresh this thread it grows by two or three pages and polls haven't even closed yet.

It seems the only solution for the Virginia GOP at this point is to just raze the suburbs. VA is hardly different from NJ, also holding its governor's race today, in that there's pretty much no way to win because Republican support is only coming from wealthy exurbs and small towns/rural areas. And then is in a race where Youngkin has run away from Trump, received very favorable ratings on education (a huge issue right now especially in places like Loudoun County), where TMac is despised, and nobody wants to be associated with the Democratic Party at the national level.

So much for the "this is a referendum on Biden" narrative that many have been trying to push.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the "early vote" exceed 2017 by quite a bit too? That always skews massively to Democrats. This election could have been over for Youngkin before the real election ever begun.

While I'm hoping he wins since Youngkin is anti vax by proxy (anti vaccine mandate), a 2 or so point McAuliffe victory is still pathetic for a state like Virginia.

Anti-vax "by proxy"? I know this isn't the thread for political bickering, but this is a surprisingly bad take from you, as you're usually a pretty level-headed poster.

Now now, that's pretty bold. Here's an even bolder take: TMac wins Arlington and Alexandria.

Hotter take: Youngkin wins Lee County.

What sites will have interactive county results w/o paywall?
I'm going to look at NBC, NYT, and Politico.

2/3 of those have paywall.

I simply cannot see a scenario where the GOP wins this race unless turnout in northern VA is extremely low. Republicans have done nothing over the last year to show us they want to let go of Trump era politics.

Youngkin looks like such a smug rich white d-bag I associate with suburban Republicans so I fear he may connect with people like Trump didn't.

I don’t understand why the McAuliffe campaign didn’t try and go after him for being wealthy and out of touch like Romney? Instead they raise the specter of Trump which just doesn't apply here at all and comes across as a hollow cover for the failing Democratic administration.

One thing is for sure, high turnout in every election is the new normal.

Welcome to the 1890s!

I swear the number of similarities between our own time and the 1890s (including electoral politics) is both incredibly interesting and incredibly depressing.

I'm glad Atlas doesn't have a Needle like NYT. That thing would be going from Safe D to Lean D to Lean R to Safe R to Titanium R in the last hour alone...

Does the Times have a needle? I don't see it.

Everything we seem to have now points to essentially a dead heat. I can say with somewhat reasonable confidence that we're going to be in for a relatively long night and that perhaps everyone needs to make plans to stay up later than usual.

Thank God it's not a Nevada election and they can actually count votes.

Based on the exit poll I’d say Youngkin is winning by 53-44. Honestly, I think it’s time to stick a fork in Virginia, as I’m more concerned about what’s happening in New Jersey, because if we lose that the Democrats are finished.

I don't think New Jersey has ever been seriously in question.

So in his last pitch McAuliffe had nothing more to say than "Trump bad" and kept bringing up Youngkin's Trump endorsement. Youngkin actually spent his last pitch talking about his policies.

this is blatantly false lol

Youngkins' entire message was CRT = bad and Virginia Public Schools = bad

Uh, no? Did you read his last pitch speech? If you did, and that's what you took away from it, I don't know what to tell you.

Regardless, even if that was his entire message, that's still talking more about policy than TMac did, who thinks he's apparently running against a former U.S. president rather than an actual gubernatorial candidate.

Steve Kornacki just called it "Buck-a-Nin" county for Buchanan County.

Uh... is that actually how it's pronounced or...?

Alben Barkley watches MSNBC. Lol. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

I don't have any real stake in who wins this race, but why is it glorious?  Are you proud of this race?  Youngkin is winning for one reason and one reason only -- TMac made a gaffe in a debate that Youngkin took full advantage of to falsely imply that TMac wanted to force our children to learn that white people are inherently evil and racist, and voters bought it hook line and sinker.  You proud of that?

COPE

Honestly I don't know why I laughed at this. I'm not even rooting for anyone in this race.

NJ just closed and MSNBC has the GOV race as "too early to call".

Some poll averages only showed Murphy up by 4-6 points so that makes sense.
