I said no, in context, but the real answer is "yes, both should be zero."

People should not be penalized for gaining or maintaining wealth.

Paying tax is being penalised? How adorable, so clearly the burden should be on the working poor.

That's some sharp ammunition if Obama goes the populist route.

until it's revealed that Obama tax rate is about the same.

Obama doesn't make his income on investment/capital gains...

please continue...how does he make his money?

I assume you think there's some kind of 'gotcha' lurking... but no, the Obama's file a joint tax return and apart from his salary as president, they make their money from book royalties... surely that's common knowledge, lol.

and you think income from investments that drive economic growth should be taxed higher than income made by selling books?!

Where did you get that from? The Obama's paid 26% in federal taxes and Romney paid 15%... do I think 15% tax rate is too low? Yes. Even Romney seemed to suggest that it was too low in the Debate yesterday... Tongue

Do I think Warren Buffett should pay less federal income tax as a proportion than an office administrator? No.

i understand wages are taxed higher than long term capital gains.  I asked if you believe income from investments should be taxed higher (or even the same) as wages?

As a general rule, I believe source of income shouldn't influence the rate paid. But I do support deduction-based incentives for investment, rather than an automatically lower-rate.

So to summarise: "f*** the poor... they weren't lucky... I want to keep my money... f***'em"
