Calling this race "titanium R" is a complete misuse of the term. It's likely R.

I mean, if it's something like Tim Ryan vs. Jim Jordan, it's barely Lean R. Ohio is not that gone for democrats, everyone needs to calm their tits.

LOTS of candidates looking at this race.

The most likely Republican candidates seem to be:

* Jon Husted, Lieutenant Governor and former Secretary of State
* Jim Jordan, Congressman and founding Freedom Caucus member
* Josh Mandel, former Treasurer of State and Senate candidate (2012)

He'd very likely win, unfortunately, but wouldn't it be cool to see him run and lose a senate race for the third time? Would probably be a record in Ohio at least.

Semi-serious question: Would this be a tossup race or better for Dems if LeBron ran?

no

Yes

Ah yes, "the 2022 Senate race in Ohio was always going to be competitive" even when Portman was considered a lock for re-election, & this is "the Democrats' No. 1 opportunity to flip a seat from (non-Atlas) red to (non-Atlas) blue" even though the open Toomey seat & John Fetterman's desire for it both exist. It almost makes too much sense!

She has to say this nonsense, she's a party person. What do you expect her to say? "We're still not gonna win unless we get really, really, lucky and thread a needle but please give us money which is probably going to end up being a waste?"

Hasn't he only lost one statewide election (and thus this would be his second loss, not third, if he were to lose)?

Ah good point he did end up dropping out the second time.

He's still probably going to win, but the Republican frontrunner wanting to abolish (or, shall we say, defund) all public schools is a massive freebie.

Came here to post this. If Mandel wins I think I'll pull the trigger and move to Vegas.

Mosque would also be allowed schools in this scheme. I’m sure they’ll love that

Bold of you to think that Ohio republicans would even allow Islam to be classified as a religion, and that after they did so that either the Ohio SC or SCOTUS would stop them.

Why do both of the major OH republicans have such noxious Twitter accounts ?

A noxious Twitter account (as an extension of their noxious personality in real life) is now a requirement for elected office as a Republican, since around early 2016.
But they're especialy even by the standards of republican political canidates, you don't see Chuck Grassley, John Cornyn or Mike Crapo posting this kind of crap ?

Simply b/c they're too old and not of the republican Troll generation. Pretty much every republicans candidate anywhere under the age of 40 going forward is going to have a social media presence in line with JD Vance/Josh Mandel/MTG/Boebert/Cawthorn.

Lmao Mandel trying to look threatening and "alpha" with the way he looks and his voice just looks pathetic.

I continue to be struck by how immature he is, both with regards to his personality and to his appearance. He looks like a college kid who is way out of his depth.

For some reason this reminded me of how when he was Treasurer he hired a frat buddy friend for a lucrative state job and the friend had to take a remedial course on, like, what the definition of the post was and what it entailed doing lol.

Bruh:

Pretty smart of Vance's old roommate to wait until after trump endorsed Vance to release these texts. His primary rivals can weaponize them against him, and if he still makes it to the general, a smart Tim Ryan campaign or a smart dem super pac can weaponize them to depress base republican turnout. I smell a bloody home stretch to this primary. Hopefully Vance gets seriously wounded.

According to someone who visited a Vance town hall, he plans to vote against McConnell, which could be a reason Trump endorsed him.

Weird how republicans never specify what "pro-family" means....

Universal healthcare?

Paid maternity and paternity leave?

Child care assistance?

Newborn wellness checkups?

Universal pre-K?

Doing something about skyrocketing real estate/the lack of affordable homes?

Or is it still just a code word for "we hate the f*****s" ?

I think he's advocated for child tax credits, more funding for social assistance to families and  making it so a family can live on a single income (idk how though).

OK then say that.....

Also, child tax credits on top of the existing one??? Social assistance.....what exactly does that mean? How much? Towards what? Pre-K? Food assistance? How does he propose to "make it so a family can live on a single income"? Substantially increase the minimum wage? Drastically lower housing costs (and if so, how?)? Whenever you hear Sherrod Brown talk about these goals, he has a specific plan for how to make it happen. With Vance everything sounds like mindless platitudes.

Still very unlikely that Ryan wins, but at least he won't get completely blown out like Strickland did:

Ill gladly introduce you to this cycles' Amy McGrath.

Mitch McConnell, despite his horrific approval ratings, is running in a state that is far more Republican than Ohio.

In some ways yes, in some ways no.

Ohio hasn't elected a democrat not named sherrod brown in this state since 2006. Kentucky has had a slew of statewide elected officials elected as democrat. Presidential Totals arent the be all end all

Didn't Obama win Ohio twice, or are we no longer counting him as a Democrat?

Also democrats have won statewide in multiple Supreme Court races in recent years, albeit in races that were nonpartisan until this upcoming election.

I have neither seen nor heard a single Vance ad since the primary. I don't think I've heard of him stumping anywhere either. Even going by the conventional wisdom that summer is a sleepy time for campaigns/voters aren't paying attention yet, it's kinda bizarre how quiet he's been. I do hope it continues though; I literally can't stand hearing his voice.

I saw an ad for the first time yesterday attacking Vance for his phony charity that was supposed to help opioid addicts, but in reality did not fund one addiction center or help one addict. Pretty bad if the issue gets legs. Ryan should seize on it as well as Roe/the story of the 10 year old girl having to leave the state after being raped.

Olowakandi,
Sabato has OH-SEN still as Likely Republican.

Ryan has been on the Airwaves in OH nonstop.

This Race will change dramatically into Vance favour after the Summer.

Ohioans do not care about Abortion, etc. They care about the Economy, Jobs, etc. and those are set to worsen in the coming months. Ryan has been voting 99.8 % of the time with the Socialist Biden Agenda.

And that Bill that just passed Congress via Reconciliation won't sit well with Ohio Voters.

New Polling shows a Plurality of Voters nationally think it will worsen the Inflation. The US will go into Recession early 2023.

Please do no make such grandiose, ignorant statements. This could not be further from the truth. You obviously do not live in Ohio b/c you have no clue how Dobbs and the 10 year old being forced to leave the state for an abortion have played here.  I'll give you a clue - not well. Also what is your source/data that Ohioans oppose the latest reconciliation bill?

I'm old enough to remember when any candidate for political office anywhere who called for anyone or any group of people to be raped would drop out of the race or be forced to drop out by their party. It won't even budge the race by 1 point now.

Also, "purge liberals from government?" You mean the majority party? The party that has won 7 of the last 9 presidential votes? Sounds to me like the minority wants to violently kill and imprison the majority b/c they can't win free elections. Straight up Nazi sh**t. No democrat could get away with saying we must "purge conservatives from government." There would instantly be nationwide scandal and calls from every level of government and every media organization for said democrat to resign or be removed.

Curious for those Ohio'ans - has Ryan put an emphasis on abortion?

Not that I've seen or heard, no. Which is a huge mistake. Talking about the republicans forcing a 10 y/o rape victim to have to leave the state to have an abortion should be a no-brainer. He should be absolutely crucifying Vance over that.

"If you had done your job she would never have been raped in the first place"

wtf did I just read? Is Vance saying once he's a senator and - one would assume - starts "doing his job", that all rapes in the state of Ohio are going to end?
