He's dead, of course, so it might not matter, and he never came out of the closet officially.  Alse, he lived in a time when folks didn't obsess over sexual orientation and argue about such trivial matters.  Still, it seems like an important question.

he didn't actually invent peanut butter

There's a display in the Instituto Nacional de Antropolía e Historia in Mexico City of an Aztec peanut grinding mill, circa AD1375.  Apparently Native Americans were already making peanut butter, or something like it, long before Columbus arrived.  Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, as well as of air mattresses and staplers, adorns some of the other artifacts in that display.
