Jeanine Pirro is confirmed as Attorney General that day, and everyone ahead of her in the line of succession dies.

DeSantis wins, picks Cox as Agriculture Secretary. DeSantis has a serious health issue, and refused to become president. Vice President elect Haley also has some problems, and it goes down the line until the electors finally elect Spencer Cox

Is this how it works? I wouldn't have thought this could happen until Cox was confirmed. Unless you mean electors as in the EC who all decided to vote for Cox.

Doug Ford, forced out of his home province for being authoritarian and generally terrible, becomes a cheerleader for the US manufacturing industry, using the same populist slogans about being 'open for business'. He manages to also portray his authoritarian streak as a tough on crime agenda, and after Trump doesn't run and the frontrunners are seen as having taken the side of criminals and illegal immigrants after an incident, Ford wins at a contested convention. He wins all of Trump's states plus Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin.

I'll do both:

Kim Jong-un does not become President, that goes to Kim Il-Sung. He does however assume all the powers of President after he succesfully kidnaps Joe Biden after his re-election and blackmails EC delegates. He is impeached and convicted of high crimes and misdemeanors while his inauguration is taking place.

Molly Gray becomes Governor of Vermont after Phil Scott runs for the Senate. Her Presidential campaign has little sway until she wins Vermont on Super Tuesday. She later wins Maine, Minnesota, Wyoming, North Dakota and Idaho and wins at a contested convention. The GOP candidate threatens to kill someone the day before the election.

James Comey.

Chris Pappas becomes more progressive in order to primary Maggie Hassan. He runs an unapologetically progressive campaign along with several others in other states and four Democratic Senators lose their  primaries. All the progressives go on to win the general elections and Dems keep control of both houses of Congress. After the most progressive Representatives do everything they can to undermine the administration, but Pappas uses this to appeal to moderates as well. He primaries Harris on this basis and wins the general.
