Immigration is one of the areas Biden is particularly vulnerable on, so maybe if he wanted to make a play for Texas in 2024 he’d be well-advised to beef up ICE presence there

Yup, though he's dancing on the edge here. If he approaches a too tough stance, he might lose goodwill among progressives. Just remember he was vigorously attacked in 2019/20 over Obama's deportation policies.

Who are progressives going to vote for otherwise? 99% of them are in states Biden could care less about too, I'm sure if his margin in New York, Vermont, California, and Massachusetts are 2-3% lower he'll be shaking in his boots.
