Week 1

Saturday, August 27th

Nebraska vs Northwestern

- Huskers are coming with a new QB, but definitely have the talent advantage in this one. I think Fitzgerald is the better coach, but I'm taking the Huskers since I think NW finishes bottom the B10 West.

North Texas @ UTEP 9 PM EDT

Both teams are returning a similar amount of production, (74%-71%) They're picked to finish 6th and 4th in CUSA respectively. I think I'll take UTEP in this one,

Vanderbilt @ Hawai'i 10:30 PM EDT CBSSN

The worst team in the best conference vs. the worst team in a G5 conference. Roll Dores.

Thursday, September 1st

West Virginia @ Pittsburgh 7 PM EDT ESPN

The backyard Brawl, should be a close game, everyone remembers the iconic 2007 game, even with Narduzzi's recent attacks on my program, I'll take the Panthers at home.

Penn State @ Purdue 8 PM EDT FOX

Penn State takes care of business, don't be surprised to see them in the top 25 sooner rather than later. Im high on Clifford.

Friday, September 2nd

Illinois @ Indiana 8 PM EDT FS1

Indiana is bad, Illinois is bad, give me the Fighting Illini by 2 scores.

TCU @ Colorado 10 PM EDT ESPN

Saturday, September 3rd

Rutgers @ Boston College Noon EDT ACCN

North Carolina @ Appalachian State Noon EDT ESPNU

Upset Alert! Mountaineers shock the Tar Heels.

NC State @ East Carolina Noon EDT ESPN

Cincinnati @ Arkansas 3:30 PM EDT ESPN

Oregon vs Georgia at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA 3:30 PM EDT ABC

Arizona @ San Diego State 3:30 PM EDT CBS
Arizona might not win a game all year
Tulsa @ Wyoming 3:30 PM EDT FS1

Houston @ UTSA 3:30 PM EDT CBSSN

Texas State @ Nevada 5:30 PM EDT

Utah @ Florida 7 PM EDT ESPN

Army @ Coastal Carolina 7 PM EDT ESPN+

Liberty @ Southern Miss 7 PM EDT ESPN+

Memphis @ Mississippi State 7:30 PM EDT ESPNU

Notre Dame @ Ohio State 7:30 PM EDT ABC

My major upset pick, give me the Irish +460 in Columbus.

SMU @ North Texas 7:30 PM EDT

Louisville
@ Syracuse 8 PM EDT ACCN

Boise State @ Oregon State 10:30 PM EDT ESPN

Sunday, September 4th

Florida State @ LSU 7:30 PM EDT ABC

The first AP Poll of the season is out, and there are some big differences from the Coaches Poll.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Georgia
4. Clemson
5. Notre Dame
6. Texas A&M
7. Utah
8. Michigan
9.  Oklahoma
10. Baylor
11. Oregon
12. Oklahoma State
13. NC State
14. USC
15. Michigan State
16. Miami (FL)
17. Pittsburgh
18. Wisconsin
19. Arkansas
20. Kentucky
21. Ole Miss
22. Wake Forest
23. Cincinnati
24. Houston
25. BYU

Mississippi State gets no respect. We'll have to pay the iron price for it like we did in 2014.

I don't remember why, I think it was over a recruit that MSU didn't really want (Crocker) in 2023, but he talked bad about MSU online, and it's pretty funny because MsSt is a poverty program in comparison. 3 10 win seasons all-time lmao

Not even I saw that type of a performance for Vandy coming.  Do I dare adjust my expectations to like 5-7?

Up against a bottom of the pack G5 team, don't put too much on week 0 results.

Just a note to say our resident Illinois homers might have been overconfident about the Fighting Illini's chances this week and this season. Indiana leads 16-10 at the half.

I took Illini moneyline at Even, Screw you Illiniwek!!!

UCF

Alabama (If Texas was similar to what they were about a decade ago, I'd probably pick them, but they just aren't on Alabama's level. I hope the Longhorns enjoy annual last place finishes in the SEC West, because that's what they are getting for the next few years)

Arkansas (The Hogs victory over Cincinnati means that I think they might just win the SEC West...if they can beat Alabama)

Kansas State

Duke

UTSA

Ball State

Tennessee (probably the closest thing to an early upset pick on my board, but I suspect Tennessee will be favored heading into the game)

Wisconsin

Colorado

Memphis

Houston

Iowa (I'd be very surprised if the Hawkeyes don't win the Cy-Hawk trophy)

Virginia (Not picking Illinois this time after the Illni let me down against Indiana)

West Virginia

Old Dominion

Liberty

Kentucky

Oklahoma State

USC

Virginia Tech

UTEP

Baylor (Easily the best game on the schedule)

Oregon State

Mississippi State

ISU might not be good but lmao Iowa scored 3 points on offense against an FCS school

How many "big games" did Kelly win at Notre Dame? Just the one where Trevor Lawrence was out with COVID? I don't see a single impressive win over USC or Michigan, just mopping up some mediocre teams.

The expectation is that he'll win 1-2 "big games" per year at LSU. This will likely end very poorly.

2011 vs. no. 15 MSU (MSU finished 11-3)
2012 @ no. 8 Oklahoma (OU finished 10-3 and won a share of the Big 12)
2013 vs. MSU (MSU finished no. 3, won the Big Ten and was 13-1 overall this one was BS bc PI was not called fairly)
2013 neutral ASU (Won the PAC-12 south, finished 10-4)
2014 vs no. 14 Stanford
2015 vs. no. 14 Georgia Tech
2017 vs no. 11 USC (Finished 11-3, won the PAC-12)
2018 vs. no. 14 Michigan (Finished 10-3 ranked no. 14)
2018 neutral no. 12 Syracuse (Finished 10-3 ranked no. 15)
2020 vs. no. 1 Clemson (Tlaw was out)
2020 @ North Carolina (Finished ranked no. 25)

I'd say most of these games were impressive wins. I won't accept ur erasure of his back-to-back (Division II) National Championships at GVSU though and 3 straight championship game appearances which led to 4 titles in 5 years, (02, 03, 05, 06)

I should probably point out that at first glance next week doesn't look great either, schedule wise.

Miami (FL)/Texas A&M is far and away the best game on the schedule.

LOL what? BYU Baylor? Bama texas? UK vs UF? Tenn Pitt?

I think Chris Creighton is gonna get a new job this winter, he's done an excellent job at one of the hardest schools in CFB in Eastern Michigan.

Possibly, but hopefully we get back on track by beating Texas A&M and Arkansas and starting 5-1.

No one cares about that irrelevant program in Mississippi, everyone knows Michigan State is the real MSU. 0 national championships in football and 3 10 win seasons all time. LOL pitiful.

Minnesota may be for real, as they just won at Michigan State 34-7 and are now 4-0.

I'm gonna wait until they play a real team

I know you probably are a Michigan fan, but most years Michigan State is in the top half of the Big Ten.

You have an incredible ability to miss information... Look at my sig.

Georgia Tech Athletic Association Board to meet tomorrow to discuss future of football program.

Quote
A special meeting of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association board has been called for Monday afternoon, a school spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday morning.

He did not disclose details of the meeting, but it’s a strong indication that a decision about a change in the leadership of the football program has been made. That could mean either athletic director Todd Stansbury or coach Geoff Collins or both.

Additionally, team meetings have been canceled Sunday, a person familiar with the program told the AJC. As the team normally meets and practices on Sunday and takes Monday off, this is a significant departure and strongly suggests that the change will include Collins.

Assuming Collins is fired...Georgia Tech should be somewhere where they can make bowl games on a regular basis.

While they aren't going to get Urban Meyer, Dave Aranda or a high-profile assistant like Graham Harrell or Bill O'Brien, a good competent coach should be doable for the Yellow Jackets.

My guesses for the next head coach at Georgia Tech, assuming Collins is fired.

Former Florida Head Coach Dan Mullen
Former Nebraska Head Coach Scott Frost
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Jamey Chadwell
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich
Tennessee Offensive Coordinator Alex Golesh

Scott frost is neither good or competent, he’d have been fired 2 years ago if he wasn’t  a legend in Lincoln

Paul Chryst is out as Head Coach at Wisconsin.

Wisconsin is still a very good job and should be able to get a great coach who can lead the Badgers to at least regular Big Ten West Division Titles.

My best guesses as to who will be the next Head Coach at Wisconsin.

Former Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer
Baylor Head Coach Dave Aranda
Pittsburgh Head Coach Pat Narduzzi
Syracuse Head Coach Dino Babers
Kansas Head Coach Lance Leipold

The only 2 who I could see even entertaining Wisconsin are Babers and Leipold, the others have better jobs already or would get higher profile offers.

I see your argument about Meyer, and possibly Aranda, but I fail to understand where Pittsburgh is a better job than Wisconsin.

Wisconsin plays in a better conference, plays in the weaker division in said conference, and has even made three NY6 games under Chryst, while Pitt has only made one under Narduzzi. How is Pitt a better job?

Pitt just made an NY6 bowl last year and is in much better-recruiting territory, WPA and Ohio are by far the best recruiting areas in the country outside of the South and California. Building a program back up, also much lower expectations at Pitt then you'd have at Wisconsin, Pitt winning the ACC last year gave Narduzzi quite a long leash, Wisconsin also is just kind of weird, they don't support their coaches a ton. That was a big reason both the guys preceding Chryst left, Biliema to Arky and Gary Anderson won the Big Ten west and left to Oregon State.

Also, I don't think the recent success metric is a really strong to go to for Narduzzi to Wisconsin, it'd make more sense if you pointed out that he spent 8 seasons as a Defensive Coordinator in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin isn't going to go with Narduzzi, they're going to go for a coach who is going to be able to make changes so they can do something (anything) on offense. Though Chryst did come from Pitt, a lot has changed in the close to 10 years it's been.

WEEK 5 RESULTS (final)
UCF beat SMU last night in a game that was delayed due to Hurricane Ian.  The adjusted scores for the week are

Should have played in the hurricane, like NC State and Notre Dame did a few years back

This season has been a full-blown disaster, we're trending towards FSU-level struggle. Good recruiting (Not FSU level, but for MSU it's good) but no player development.
