I haven't really been invested in NZ politics, so I'm wondering what in the world happened that caused Labour to experience such a decline from 2020?

Only posting this here since this is before the advance results, but here's my normal fully proportional result post (this is also using 120 seats since overhang seats don't exist here):

NAT: 47 seats (-3)
LAB: 32 seats (-2)
GRN: 13 seats (-1)
ACT: 11 seats (+/- 0)
NZF: 8 seats (+/- 0)
TPM: 3 seats (-1)
TOP: 3 seats (+3)
NZL: 1 seat (+1)
NWZ: 1 seat (+1)
LCP: 1 seat (+1)

LCP [0.4708 quotas] gets the last seat over NZL [1.3914 quotas] by 1490 votes.

New parties:
The Opportunities Party (TOP): Radical centrist party with some wonky policies from my look of things. UBI, public transport, environmentalism, increasing urban density, etc.
New Zealand Loyal (NZL): A party founded by conspiracy theorist Lizz Gunn who in the announcement of the party's founding decried "fluoridation, 1080, Bill Gates, "gender programming", the World Economic Forum, media, the 15-minute city urban planning concept, the "brown mafia"," and a bunch of other crazy things.
NewZeal (NWZ): Formerly the ONE Party, a very crazy christian type party, its direction and name change under Fmr. MP Alfred Ngaro has taken it away from those roots to be a more secular conservative alternative to the Nationals, Ngaro saying he was disappointed with the Nationals being opposed to conversion therapy and support for gender identity.
Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party (LCP): Pro-marijuana legalization party whose policies all relate to drug policy and education.

Government formation is set to take longer than it did for Labour in 2017, now a month after the election, and this means Luxon can't attend APEC on the 15th. Peters apparently rejected an offer from National on Friday-
Quote
It’s understood Peters saw an offer from National on Friday and not long after packed his bags and headed to the airport.

One source told Newsroom Peters appeared to be “pretty offended by it”.

A hilarious incident from earlier in the talks is that Peters ignored a text from David Seymour and told the media he thought it was a fake.
shaping up to be a very stable government!
