PS with 68%, seems about right. Not a huge fan but the best choice that's available and actually will win seats.

KOTLEBA-LSNS: 12 seats (-5)
PS-SPOLU: 10 seats (+10)
SaS: 9 seats (-4)

jeez, really no one appealing to some sort of progressive left? I get it's central europe, but I'd have thought there'd at least be some third-rate party polling at like 2-3% that I wouldn't feel bleh about voting for in one way or another.

that presumably can't bode well for Smer in future elections when these students actually vote.

those exit polls give hope. Of course, not a fan that the party led by a guy who gave a gay broadcaster a shirt saying "plague" on it is kingmaker, but considering the other options, I'd take it if I were in Slovakia...

It was the other way round, but it was in response to the guy saying that "LGBT is a plague as bad as corruption", so...
I must have read the thing wrong back when you posted it. Still, he's a homophobic dickhead

Crap, so what’s the likely government? Is it really likely that much will *actually* change especially foreign policy and lgbt wise?

For what his words are worth (not much), Pellegrini said this at the Hlas election night press conference:

"...Peter Pellegrini did not directly comment on any potential combination of parties that could form a government coalition with his Hlas party. However, he assumes that Fico, as the winner, will call him first.

However, Pellegrini is still convinced that two ex-prime ministers in the government is not an optimal situation, but nothing prevents the creation of such a coalition. They will consider a possible offer.

Pellegrini emphasized that any decision will not be his decision only, but the decision of the party presidency. He thanked the voters for their trust and, apart from Smer, he also congratulated every party that got into parliament."

...refusing to congratulate Smer is interesting, and that statement really does read like he'd prefer PS. But as Estrella has discussed before, trusting anything a slovak politician says regarding who they'll form government with is for fools

are there a significant number of Hlas voters who would abandon the party over this? Or is Fico more approved of among them?

Perhaps not the best start to a presidential campaign.

SNS chief Danko destroyed a traffic light at night with his car. He fled the scene.

Quote
Andrej Danko, the SNS Deputy Speaker of Parliament, destroyed a traffic light in Bratislava's Dúbravka district and then allegedly fled the scene of the accident.

All opposition parties have already called on him to resign as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The incident will not be able to be "casually shrugged off" also according to parliamentary speaker and Danko's colleague in the coalition leadership, Petr Pellegrini of Hlas, if it is confirmed that Danko "clearly broke the law" after the accident.

The accident is said to have occurred during the night of Thursday to Friday. "Andrej Danko allegedly did not immediately report the accident to the police, backed out with the car and drove it home. The police also traced him by the oil slick. It led to his garage and reporters saw it with their own eyes" the website reports. A plate with the registration number of the car, which is owned by SNS, was also left at the scene of the accident. According to this, the police subsequently tracked down the culprit of the accident.

Danko subsequently confirmed the accident. For Startitup he first said: "I hit a pole, so what, I'll pay for everything." Later, he also posted a video on social media on the topic. "It happened, I admit it. I skidded tonight, which is probably not unusual. I hit a pole, I reported it to the insurance company, I reported it to the town hall. If there is anything else that needs to be done, I will do everything," Danko said. He added that he had also provided assistance to the police.

As to why he did not wait at the scene, he added only that "with the pillar he would hardly write an insurance claim".

never change, Slovakia. This really feels like a political satire just happening irl.

wtf I love Fico now?

Fico bets on nuclear and talks about a project worth tens of billions of euros.

Quote
Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) supports the construction of a new nuclear unit in Jaslovské Bohunice with a capacity of more than 1,000 megawatts. He justified this on the grounds of the expected growth in electricity consumption in Slovakia in connection with the transition to electromobility.

Currently, according to the Prime Minister, there is no problem with the shortage of nuclear fuel. "The problem is whether we will have the courage to take a decision and say that we are going to build another nuclear unit in Jaslovské Bohunice. And I am very much in favour of that," Fico said. According to the prime minister, the analysis shows an increase in electricity consumption by 40 to 83% by 2040. Such demand, according to Fico, cannot be covered by electricity produced from photovoltaic panels or wind.

The construction of the new nuclear unit in Jaslovské Bohunice could be carried out by the Nuclear Energy Company of Slovakia (JESS), according to previous government decisions. It is a joint venture between the Slovak Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS), which owns a 51% stake, and the Czech energy group CEZ, which owns 49% of the company.

Slovakia currently has five operational nuclear reactors producing 55–60% of our electricity, the second highest share in the world just behind France. Every political party supports the expansion of nuclear energy, usually with justifications based on their ideology (Smer and Hlas because it'll be cheaper for consumers, PS and SaS because it's green, SNS because "we must not give in to pressure of the West to limit or stop the operation of nuclear power plants"), sometimes with an addendum (Matovič wants to build more small modular reactors, KDH wants operators to keep a three year reserve of nuclear fuel, Republika wants to build a third power plant instead of adding reactors to existing ones etc). The only arguably nuclear-skeptical party is PS, and even their position is just that new projects should be funded by private investors instead of the state. At Mochovce, a new reactor was started last year and another one is being built, scheduled to be finished this year. One of Slovakia's two remaining coal power plants at Nováky closed last December, the other one at Vojany will close in the next few months.

You know, it's nice we have at least one reason to justifiably look down on other countries Cool Eat your heart out, Germans.
