Here's the Austrian result (this is a projection with 100% of the votes counted, plus an estimate of postal ballots which will be counted tomorrow, so there's still a margin of error of +/- 0.3%):

Turnout was 45.7% (-0.3%)

A trend of eurosceptic and/or hard-right parties underperforming? I mean, the PVV did quite badly in the Netherlands, whilst the FPO and AfD did okay but not exceptionally in Austria and Germany respectively. Not that they'll be any real 'Europe-wide' voting patterns, its just a general observation. Except France, of course.

And remember:

The Austrian projection still has a margin of error of +/- 0.3%

The FPÖ could as well go down to 19% tomorrow when the absentees are counted, because the FPÖ usually does horrible in this count.

I think the main reasons why NEOS did so badly (8%) relative to their polling results (10-14%) are:

* In the debates, NEOS-frontrunner Angelika Mlinar talked a lot about privatisation of public water and waste-management (something state- and community-owned that actually works very well in Austria). She also talked about a "United States of Europe" and a "European Army". Austrians don't like that stuff, especially the centrist protest voters that NEOS attracted in the previous months - and now stayed home.

* NEOS has many young supporters. Precinct workers twittered today that young people were amongst the least likely to vote today.

It's not exactly a laughing matter either way. It's disgusting.

Yeah, that is of course true.

The latest projections show that the EPP will get some 230-240 seats and the PES just 190-200.

Pretty good results for the left and center-left parties, except in France, which is a horror.

Has there been a UK exit yet that I've missed?

The UK does not do exit polls.

Results should be released there in 1.5 hours.

Thanks, Hash. Really classy.

Apparently Tower Hamlets may not be able to meet the UK results deadline tonight as they're still counting the local election results from 3 days ago....

LOL, what a disgrace.

FPÖ wins Lobau and not the Greens - WTF ?

It's that fat blue area in the East, which is a national park.

Presumably the precinct also includes a residential area somewhere along its northern boundary.

You can watch this whole thing on Google (you need to click on "Satellite"):

https://www.google.com/fusiontables/embedviz?q=select+col8%3E%3E1+from+1qUXjXpnwThIZX_0gYUk7P2vbNAw83yMEVy29QqQt&viz=MAP&h=false&lat=48.21767915939287&lng=16.40920173263555&t=1&z=12&l=col8%3E%3E1&y=2&tmplt=2&hml=KML

It looks like there's only 2 factories there (OMV Zentraltanklager) and a Dampfkraftwerk.

In the north-west part of that blue area is a residency area though, small - but suburban.

Maybe that explains it.

Just noticed this:

If you klick on the precincts, you will also get the vote totals by precinct and percentages.

One man, two votes: Giovanni di Lorenzo, editor-in-chief of the German newspaper DIE ZEIT announced yesterday that he voted twice. As a dual citizen of Germany and Italy he cast his ballots for both countries.

That's cheating! Angry I didn't vote in France...

He's being investigated for it.

Oh, so there are laws against it? How are they supposed to be enforced, since there's no way to know if you've voted in another country?

Usually all precincts have voter lists and when you vote you get an [X] next to your name.

I think you can find out if someone voted twice ...
