The recent escalation of sh*t slinging is remarkable.

It should have been Sewell.

The thing about the policy criticisms of Rice — which I mostly agree with, for the record — is that she'll still be directing a Biden administration's foreign policy whether or not she's VP. It'll be her or Power at State.

Is there any reason at all for her to be VP rather than SoS?

I can't find an article, but someone from Axios was on MSNBC this morning saying the final two were down to Harris and Rice.

Rice threw shade at Harris yesterday saying in an interview that she has no personal ambitions. Which I actually found a very tasteless and unseemly thing to do.

I am entirely baffled by the fact that Rice might be VP. So it’ll probably happen.

I’m beginning to believe that Biden will in fact announce on the 14th (Friday before the convention).

It seems foolish to choose Whitmer. She’s served 2 years and MI is in the middle of a pandemic! VP would be a waste of her talents and time. Gilchrist would be a good Gov though.

But, I suppose choosing Whitmer might be wise, given that Biden has a ~20% chance of dying or having to resign. The VP needs to be someone who is ready to take over on day one. Whitmer, Harris, and Warren fit that bill. Rice simply doesn’t. Biden doesn't need a buddy. He needs an equal.

Damn. I did not see the current situation (Rice/Whitmer being likely) coming. I was sure it would be Harris. Way too overconfident - I’ve owned myself so thoroughly that I'll delete my account if it isn’t Harris.

Rice can be SoS, NSA again, or even one of the first two Senators from DC (which she professed to be her childhood dream!). Pick someone with actual governing experience (Whitmer?) to be Veep. Joe has a very high chance of dying in his first term (~20% if he was average, probably lower b/c he’s in good health). Rice is a complete unknown. Will she be able to lead the country through the death of its President? Will anyone even like her? Biden needs more than a conscripted buddy.

I don’t want to project my own feelings (I will anyway), but I don’t think an insanely wealthy person who’s only worked 2 years of a real job in her life is Presidential material. I like literally every other candidate. Even Bass is a (far) safer choice!
