Are there any Anglophone areas that are really demographically similar to Vancouver Island?

Byron Bay and the surrounding Northern Rivers in Northern NSW strikes me as overall fairly similar to Vancouver Island. Very greeny politically, full of older hippies and ex-communes, scattered remnants of old conservative dominance of yesteryear, large surfing community. I imagine there's quite a lot more similarities but I'm not too familiar with Canada.

Just read an article about Doug Ford using the notwithstanding clause to defeat a union strike (Huh). Is he actually doing that?

Doesn’t seem to have been mentioned on forum, but a couple weeks ago the BC Liberals finalised their renaming and new identity.

Anyway, to change the subject completely: Gus Etchegary, one of N.L.'s fiercest fisheries advocates, dies at 98.

This is a very niche thing, but find it fascinating that after four or five centuries, there are still (what I presume are) some old Basque whalers' surnames holding on in Newfoundland.

At least John Crosbie didn’t take the fish from the goddamn water.

While the comparison with population is interesting, the number of cabinet members is more generally proportional to the number of parliamentarians, as can be seen in Canadian provinces and Australian states.

Not even Tony himself would agree with that! The idea that his 2 years of misrule somehow compare to Menzies is hysterical to even the most loyal Abbottite.
