So as a vegan, there's definitely a huge chunk subscribed to a leftist belief system, but the political thought is not nearly as unanimous as some think. I feel that it's more likely to see more fringe vegans on the left and the right as a result of not being as inclined to follow social norms (social norms like an omnivorous diet).

Some people go vegan or vegetarian for health or religious reasons instead of ethical reasons (which is totally valid too!). For health reasons, some vegetarians and vegans may be older and some may come from areas with lower life expectancy rates (which you can see happening in both Democratic and Republican strongholds).

For religious reasons you can look at many Hindus (which if Indian-American voting patterns are representative) clearly leans Democratic, or 7th Day Adventists (which I feel is more of a mixed bag politically).

So I'd say yes, vegetarians and vegans as a whole lean towards the Democrats, but it's not a total wash.
