Breaking the AP has learned from GOP house insiders that they heard some talk 3 weeks ago about Dennis Hastert sexually abusing Teenage boys, so the GOP investigated and they seem to think the reports are true so they told Dennis that if he did not resign they would vote him out as speaker and vote him out of the house. Dennis agreed to resign, now from our sources inside the GOP here are the front runners for Speaker of the house.

                                        BREAKING NEWS

Slade Gorton has just stated he will not run for Re-election in 2006, Slade Gorton who has been in and out of Congress since 1980 nearly lost in 2000 holding on by only 628 votes against Congresswoman Maria Cantwell.

The democrats reportedly were already trying to talk Christine Gregoire into running against Gorton it will be interesting to see if she runs now that Gorton is out.

The republicans most mentioned in the event that Gorton step down are....
State senator Don Benton.....
Attorney General Rob McKenna.....
Governor Dino Rossi....

No word on if any are interested but GOP insiders say it’s very unlikely that Rossi runs especially since he just became governor.

BREAKING NEWS
We at the Columbia can comfirm that state senator Don Benton will run for the senate seat held by retiring senator Slade Gorton.

We have this picture of Don Benton filling out paper work to run for senate

Don Benton who has been a state senator in the Vancouver Washington area for 12 years is a very good recruitment for the republicans. But he does start as the underdog since Washington does lean Blue and that it’s a midterm with Bush as President but the election is still 18 months away.

Goodspaceguy when he ran in 2002 for Congress.

Goodspaceguy has declared he is in no word on what party he will run for but in the past he has ran as a republican a democrat and an independent so it will be interesting to see how he runs this time.

STATE SENATOR DON BENTON DROPS OUT OF THE SENATE RACE

State Senator Don Benton announced that he is dropping out of the senate race to instead run for the yet to be announced Washington third congressional district special election.

This leaves the senate race without a republican however Dino Rossi is reportedly going to announce the person he is appointing to take over for Slade Gorton. There is some talk to save the state of Washington money that there won’t be any special election.

                                                       BREAKING NEWS

Governor Rossi has announced that he will be appointing STATE REPRESENTATIVE RICHARD DEBOLT to fill the Slade Gorton’s senate term after he died in a plane crash.

Governor Rossi reportedly had a hard finding someone to appoint because he didn’t want to appoint a state senator since Don Benton is likely to win his election to the third congressional district and to many open seats would give control to the democrats. He wanted Rob McKenna but he turned it down because he wants to run for senate in 2010 or governor in 2012.
