This...is a pretty weird message to take.

Reminds me of Scott Jensen's ad saying that you should ignore his views on abortion because he can't do anything about it anyway. Is this the new GOP strategy to sidestep the issue?

It was also Drazan's line defense when asked about the abortion issue at the first Oregon gubernatorial debate. It's certainly an indication that (most) Republican candidates for governor are concerned about the implications of the Dobbs decision on undecided voters. It's especially critical for Dixon, who might otherwise be in a dead heat race with Whitmer were it not for the abortion ballot question.

wouldn't be surprised if Whitmer won by less than 10%. I believe she has this and will win, but she is unpopular with a large amount of people, she is polarizing, I could see a 53-45 win for her, like in 2018.

Whitmer is indeed polarizing and part of that is owed to her ascent to national politics with the strict lockdowns and speculation over Biden’s running mate. It’s telling that out of all the democratic governors in the country, she was the one who was the target of a kidnapping plot by right wing terrorists. Considering how little national republicans have decided to invest in the race, Whitmer is favored, but certainly not by a safe or likely margin in a state that’s to the right of the nation as a whole.
