Slotkin or Stevens would both be tremendous picks. The LG, AG, SOS would also all be fine though they may want to stay in state government now that they finally have the trifecta. Levin should never be allowed to run again after his cowardice cost us a seat in 2022. Tlaib and Buttigieg are joke options.

INB4 James for senate V.3, facilitating the Levin redemption arc.

Hasn't Mayor Secretary Pete moved to Michigan? I honestly think that would be a good chance for him, or is that too early and he'd just be seen as shameless carpetbagger? Otherwise, he needs to hope a reelected President Biden assigns him a bigger role in the next presidential term.

He's already said no.

Who is the best possible candidate for the Rs?

Its not too hard to imagine one of MI-03 former Reps or Upton winning if the national result is overall good for the GOP. But it's impossible to imagine them winning a primary today, especially since the state Republican party internal apparatus just got captured by those who would want and promote candidates who are the opposite of the previous examples.

This thread is so overtaken by Dem primary discourse (rightly or wrongly) that I don't know if there is even a relevant Republican candidate yet. Is there? Last I heard it was the out-of-state billionaire and Meijer who were both putting out feelers. Both of those guys would lose to literally anybody more known in the state, even if they are from the circular firing squad that is the state party right now.

So is there anyone?

Note: Has lived in Florida for some time now and is registered to vote there.

What's with GOP party 'thinkers' and promoting out-of-state candidates these past few cycles...

I assume he thinks his presidential campaign raised his value and profile...but it really didn't.  At least he's from Michigan, but the signature issue from last year doesn't spark confidence he can go anywhere significant.

It should have been a sign that Craig was a terrible candidate when he couldn't get enough signatures to get on the ballot in 2022. Rogers is a strong favorite in this primary.

The above fundraising numbers are why me and others brought up the signature issues even though it doesn't matter electorally. It was a flashing red light that this guy doesn't know how to run the backend of a campaign, which will lead to decisions that do have electoral impacts. And the fundraising is a sign that things have not changed in this regard.

This guy can't run a campaign to save his life.

Reminder that Meijer is also running on the GOP side. That's a division of not just the anti-Trumpist vote, but also the Grand Rapids Dutch/Religious/Old Guard conservatives. Without the party rolling over for one of them - not gonna happen with Rodgers - this just means mutually assured destruction.

Trump had to endorse someone and the other two major candidates, impeached him.

Just a very weird GOP primary given the state of the GOP party elsewhere.

I mean the Michigan GOP is in a very weird position at the moment. Oddities beget oddities.
