I had no idea that Astorino still had gubernatorial ambitions after getting walloped out of office in his ill-advised attempt at a third term as county executive. Where does he get off comparing himself to George Pataki?

Overwhelming majority of NYGOP suffers from electoral schizophrenia.

Rudy Giuliani and Greg Kelly (Newsmax Host) have endorsed Andrew Giuliani, while Assemblyman Christopher Tague and Rep. Andrew Garbarino have endorsed Lee Zeldin.

Hillary Clinton campaign staffer teases idea of Gubernatorial campaign.

I mean, maybe? Genius political move by the NY Democratic Party if they could recruit her to be the savior of the office. Puts any AOC/Teachout/Nixon hopes dead on arrival as well. Party might even cancel the primary in that case.

State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi reiterates potential to run for Governor if Cuomo seeks nomination again, also considering run for Lieutenant Governor or Comptroller:

Might be a bold take around here but I'd see a Hochul/Biaggi primary being competitive. Given the relative unpopularity of Lieutenant Governor races, I could easily see Biaggi gaining some online traction on the left and capitalizing on it. Comptroller - I'd probably put her as a favorite because DiNapoli is probably one of the most boring people in all of NYS politics.

Al Sharpton "has been asked" about running against Hochul.

FWIW, NY GOP starting to take out social media ads depicting a Hochul vs. de Blasio primary.

Mods / OP, can we get a title change? This is not an important development in the race at all.

What else has been going on?

Some news about Tom Suozzi, but I certainly a waste of time should he actually get in.

Based. I really want Brown to win.

For my gripes with Hochul, I can't wait until she gives this Republican crook the spanking he deserves.

Funny coming from the girl who owes Buffalo $700+  in vehicle fines. She'll be back in the workforce in a few weeks, thankfully.

EMILY's List endorses Hochul.

Quote
EMILY’s List, the progressive organization that supports pro-abortion rights women running for office, announced an early endorsement for New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Thursday as the first female chief of the Empire State looks to secure a full term next year.

Laphonza Butler, the president of EMILY’s List, pointed to Hochul’s leadership in the wake of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) resignation —specifically her focus on a culture of sexual harassment in Albany — in her statement endorsing the governor.

“Governor Hochul stepped up to lead New York in a moment rife with skepticism and mistrust for Albany. As governor, she has prioritized rebuilding trust between her administration and New Yorkers, and delivering results,” Butler said.

“Her leadership has been integral to effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic and a reexamination of the sexual harassment culture in the capital,” she added.

Butler said Hochul will “continue to put the people of New York first, as she has done during her decades of public service, and will lift up women, children, and underserved communities.”

Getting kind of hard to see how Letitia James runs now. One of her major sources of primary funding just got cut off.

I read that James never a good fundraiser in the first place. Hochul was outraising her even before taking office.

I just hope James declines to run and instead runs for reelection as Attorney General. Ideally, Hochul and James then endorse each other.

Not sure it matter that much, but Hochul and Benjamin also received some upstate endorsements lately (not that I think it matter a whole lot, she's probably dominating Upstate in the primary anyway):

Judging by her appearance here in Buffalo recently, I'd say AG James doesn't run.

What an ugly primary this is going to be. Will be far more toxic than Cuomo vs. Nixon.

A bit disappointing to see one of the most effective state AG's in my lifetime vacate her office for what will be a major uphill battle. Hopefully her successor (ideally Teachout) is able to continue her great work.

I'll take one AG Teachout PLEASE.

Also of note, FWIW, de Blasio has found himself moved to "Announcement Pending" on Wikipedia.

I don't see him standing a chance against James though. Let alone a crowded field of progressives. Things are looking good for Hochul early, but  NY Gov primaries heat up quickly.

Sidenote: Not feeling the odd Tish James logo (any meaning to the big red ball I'm not getting?), but have a feeling she'll do well here in Buffalo.

Why do you have a feeling that James will do well in literal Hochul country?

She's from here, sure, but I could see Tish getting the India Walton momentum and then some. Depends on how Hochul campaigns tbh.

Anyone but Tish James.

Donated, but interested to see if he can overtake Hochul in polling.

Had a gut feeling we'd see 4+ candidates. Got a feeling we'll see 2-3 more, namely de Blasio saying no and 2 minor candidates jumping in. I think the pretty obvious standings at the moment would be:

1) Hochul
2) James
3) Suozzi
4) Williams

Will definitely go down as an awkward footnote in history.

I also wonder if this has to do with a major development coming in the Cuomo, Cuomon admin, or Trump investigations?

Ouch.

As to Wilson, he's always been one of those names floated around by state Republicans. It's getting to be a little late, but I think this might be the time he finally does it, and no doubt with the money and resources he has he'd win the primary/county GOPs would unendorse Zeldin.

Sources claiming Hochul will actually renew and expand (including children 2+) the mask mandate tomorrow.

Curious to see how she'll fare by further infuriating parents.
