Not directly, but subconsciously maybe: this reminds people of the old style of politics which they hate and which Hillary represents. Also, spitzer had backed her campaign though he hadn't been a vocal supporter.
Will she resign her Senate seat in time so the people of New York will be able to elect her replacement? Or will she in effect blackmail Spitzer in order to get him to appoint her choice?

it would make no sense to resign her senate seat until after she gets elected. Even if she gets the nomination, which I would say is at best a 30% chance at this point, her victory in the general election would be FAR from a foregone conclusion, and better a lengthy career in the senate than nothing.
