I still think retiring Congressman George Holding would be the better option.

Anyways Burr was a Congressman before he ran for Senate in 2004 defeating Erskine Bowles.

Strong chance North Carolina will have another former Congressman moving into the Senate.

Walker is way more appealing to the Republican base than Holding, although the latter would probably be tougher to beat in a general.

Rep. Mark Walker (R) dropping out of the Senate Race and running for Congress.

Also, Bo Hines, the leading candidate in the district right now, is stepping aside for Walker and moving to the 4th. That's probably what the holdup was about, otherwise Walker would have announced it last November.

Okay, so it looks pretty clear that Ted Budd will be the next Senator from North Carolina. Nothing more to see here.

It looks like Trump orchestrated the move to help Budd in the primary. He might have actually gotten the NCGA to draw a district for Walker exactly for this reason.

Not the Senate race, but Jackson dropped into the 14th:

Alma Adams will be stepping side in 2024 for him, I presume.
