A more socially liberal individual for whom guns are more of a hobby than a lifestyle (mUH guNz)

They probably just joined the NRA to get discounts on ammo/range visits. A friend I know in Vermont did the same thing and he voted McCain/Obama/abstained/Biden. I know I considered it for a while until Sandy Hook happened...

Governor Howard Dean had a good NRA record in Vermont. Bernie Sanders voted against the 1993 Brady Bill and had a decent NRA record.

Yep yep. It’s only a fairly recent phenomenon of the NRA being de facto Republican
