Yeah, I'm surprised too. Good on Costa, though honestly I can't be too thrilled that he's being rewarded for f**king over the left and going full neoliberal. And the next PSD leader will almost certainly be to the right of Rio.
I wouldn't say he went full neoliberal, but this is not a great result for the PS left indeed. Electing Pedro Nuno Santos as the next leader after this would be a big risk.

And it's official: PS has a majority, PAN is in and CDS is out.

Yes, the party system became more similar to the rest of Europe, but the CDU is not at all the equivalent of a Green party. The PEV was always a minor element in it and now they don't even have seats left. The Green equivalents would be Livre and PAN. The CDU (PCP in practice) can be better compared to the East German Linke imo: supported mainly by older people in a certain region of the country, very ideological/left-wing in some aspects to the point it harms them but not really "woke", directly threatened by the rise of the far-right and the death of its most loyal supporters.

Disappointing how well Chega is doing with the diaspora. The Facebook effect, I suppose.

CDS has some advantages, like having a long history, a significant local presence in some regions including 6 mayors and probably a well-known new leader who is an elected MEP, but 4 years without media coverage will be devastating.
