Can we just not Beto. I'm seriously over his insufferable narcissism. I admit he made a good run of it in 2018; but if he was serious about trying that route again he would've laid low and built the foundation for a second run after his disastrous and publicly humiliating run for President. This is the 'I was just born to be in it' type attitude all-over again.

Veronica Escobar, Lina Hidalgo, Julian Castro, Amanda Edwards, Cristina Ramirez, it isn't like we're lacking for a bench here in Texas.

Hell I'd sooner start a Marxists for McConaughey™ group before backing Beto again...

I'll be the first person to start a 'Marxists for McConaughey'™ group if he gets in; I can't stand Beto's narcissism.

But for real, I really hope McConaughey gets in as an independent. I understand he'll have to probably straddle a fine line and throw some light red meat to Conservative leaning independent, this being Texas and all. But at the same time, he'll represent a real chance for us to pass election reform, healthcare expansion, minimum wage increases and other progressive ideas that are popular, just not with the (D) name attached.

Just got back from a massive Beto rally in Frisco (north of DFW) and the crowd was absolutely pumped even in 100+ degree weather.

Am I the biggest Beto fan in the world? No. But the man has heart, you can't take that from him and he believes in building a better Texas for everyone.

Bit of a strange question but what did the Demographics of the crowd look like?

A mix of all ages, races and genders... I met a sweet-old 75/80 year old lady when I went inside to get a sign and water. I'd say the crowd leaned female by a bit and maybe white, but there were plenty of Asian and Latino people as well and an amazing African American woman whose involved in local politics asked Beto about gun violence. Some people came all the way from Fort Worth/Irving and even though the area is more upper-middle class it was really a diverse crowd. Great energy, too.

Edit: This was the one.

One of the best parts of Beto’s speech today and I think you can even hear me in the background. I would say that we deserve a governor like this, but the truth is I don’t know if Texas does deserve a Governor as genuine as Beto.

Thank you for saying this Beto! As a member of the LGBT community who has felt unsafe in my own state recently this man gave me some hope today.

All I can confirm anecdotally is that in Collin County, which is pretty-much one of the top 5 most important counties for Beto to win, he has 3 new votes since 2018 in my family alone and plenty more among my friend group.

What about anecdotal lawn signs?

Honestly haven't seen too many lawn signs since the primaries died down. There were a ton scattering my city in March-April. Guess we'll see if there's an uptick as the general gets closer in September/October.

Fwiw, the counter-protestors at Beto's rally were dwarfed something like 30-1. That was nice to see in a typically GOP area.

Beto Drawing Large Crowds In Deep Red Texas

I've never been Beto's biggest fan but I don't think anyone can claim that he doesn't know how to run a great campaign, particularly when he hits his stride when he's being well-received. Putting the doomed Presidential campaign aside I can't deny the mans authenticity and if he weren't in a state as toxic as Texas politically then he'd definitely already be a Senator or Governor.

Almost 100+ town halls by Beto vs. not a single campaign stop by Abbott, absolutely shameful. The man literally thinks he can walk into the governorship because of the (R) next to his name.

Guess that's why they (Abbott supporters) have to keep showing up at our rallies, but hey I'll take it...Seems like we're winning a lot of them over.  Cheesy

Greg Abbott's lead over Beto O'Rourke has shrunk to 5 points, new poll shows

Do I think Beto is likely to pull it off? Not really, but I absolutely think that if the margin is under 5 points in this environment that Republicans are going to be sweating for the rest of this decade. Texas isn't solid Red anymore and isn't likely to ever be again for the foreseeable future.

Fwiw, in Collin county, it pains me to say that Beto is being demolished in the sign game. I know it probably doesn't matter in the end but I've only just started to see a few Beto signs on the highways after the parade of GOP signs. Democratic congressional candidates are doing a little better...

Interestingly, on private residences, I've seen way more Beto signs than GOP, however.

May I ask where are you in Collin County?

I live in Allen, which is pretty central... although my job regularly brings me all across Collin and the DFW area.

Highway signs are completely meaningless. Signs on houses are pretty meaningless too but at least might be a measure of something.

Oh I realize that but it can still effect how your supporters feel about the race and considering Collin is probably in the top three most critical counties for a Democrat to win state-wide in Texas eventually and I'd argue they should be doing a lot more here. If nothing else it certainly does represent the level of organization your candidacy/campaign has in a certain place.

Interesting because Allen is a very swingy community that has obviously been shifting hard left in recent cycles.

If you're seeing more neighbors with Beto signs than Abbott signs, that seems like a good thing in my book. I do agree that things like highway signage can show how seriously campaigns are investing in certain communities though so that's a bit dissapointing.

Indeed, Biden actually won Allen by 1 point in 2020 while Romney won it by 31 points in 2012 (no joke!) so Collin is certainly seeing movement. And while it's absolutely anecdotal I can personally attest to having convinced nearly a dozen people to register to vote and vote Blue since I moved here in late 2019. I don't know a single person under 30 who is voting GOP.

It's a little over 300 bucks to buy 40 yard signs... Maybe if I'm still here in 2022 I'll fundraise and put the damn signs up myself, lol. Does anyone know the law on that? Can you just go put up signs for your candidate where you see dozens of others?

Just got back from the polling booths with two friends, both first time voters.

It was an hour to polls closed and there was pretty decent foot traffic, which I was glad to see.

What was the weather like? We had a pretty big storm over large parts of the state just hours earlier.

Overcast but other than that, it was fine. It was storming pretty bad earlier but the lady told me they've been having plenty of people come in, even with the rain.

Well, disappointed to see that Beto couldn't hold his 2018 margins in DFW, though I suppose that was unlikely. Definitely didn't see the organizational strength from his campaign that Republicans had in my area, despite the energetic rallies, so Democrats in Texas really need to go back to the drawing board as far as our ground game is concerned imo.

Last two Texas Governor Elections

2018
Greg Abbott (R) 4,656,156 - 55.8 %
Lupe Valdez (D) 3,546,590 - 42.5 %

Difference: 1,109,566

2022 [Unofficial Results]

Greg Abbott (R) 4,427,345 - 54.8 %
Beto O'Rourke (D) 3,545,032 - 43.8 %

Difference: 882,313

2020 Presidential Race

Donald J. Trump (R) 5,890,347 - 52.1 %
Joseph R. Biden (D) 5,259,126 - 46.5 %

Difference: 631,221

And yet some liberal Atlas Tards have that PIPE-DREAM they can turn Texas Blue if Trump is the Nominee in 2024. Not happening! Where do you find 600K+ extra Votes? Please explain?

My Prediction: Texas stays RED even if Trump is the Nominee.

Interesting that you ignored Senate 2018 because it doesn't fit your narrative,

2018

Ted Cruz (R) 4,260,553 - 50.9%
Beto O'Rourke (D) 4,045,632 - 48.3%

There you go, if we can get those voters out then we only need 200k, not 600k.

Am I saying it's even remotely likely? Nah, I think Texas would still probably go for Trump by around or under 5 points, but I also think Trump is far more comparable to Cruz in terms of divisiveness than Abbott.
