The importance of Supreme Court majorities in swing states can't be understated; glad that Janet seemingly is the favorite but we absolutely shouldn't rest on our laurels or take anything for granted.

If Protasiewicz and Johnson both pull this off tonight and deliver a stinging rebuke for social reactionary judicial thought and neoliberals then I'll be able to go to bed with a small amount of hope restored in some of my countrymen. Purple heart

Neoliberal means politician I don’t like moment

Paul Vallas isn't a neoliberal, third-way, centrist democrat in almost every respect?

Imagine if all Democrats voted like Dane County; truly astonishing.

The way the Wisconsin legislature is gerrymandered is borderline 3rd world banana republic level of authoritarianism from the GOP and getting a chance to root it out and return the legislatures to the people is equally as important to me tonight as protecting the right to choose.

I'm just so happy, good choice Wisconsin! Purple heart

Watching the GOP absolutely melt-down when they get the tiniest taste of their own medicine in terms of 'play-to-win' governance is amazing.

Cope harder

Scott Walker's legacy is gonna be wiped out now ugh.

Best possible timeline

That would have been Romney winning in 2012

You opinions are usually the things I say as jokes, but this may be true. Democrats keeping the senate in 2014? Maybe even expand their majority? Democrats likely winning back the house? All this allowing whatever democrat wallops him in 2016 a comfortable majorities in both chambers to pass a “radical socialist agenda”. Sounds pretty alright to me.

The Democrats arent keeping the Senate in 2014 and given that Romney was tailor made for the 2010s GOP house map, the Dems arent winning the House either. Given that Hillary would still be dodged by the email investigation, Romney likely comfortably beats her for reelection too.

2018 yeah Democrats probably do take back both houses but the GOP may have a chance of holding the WH in 2020 depending how Romney handled COVID and getting a historic third term.

Huh?

Well not really that historic but only the 2nd time it would have happened since 1952.

I think Nathan might have been under the impression that you were saying Romney would be so popular that he'd lead a movement to repeal term limits and be the first President to run for a 3rd term since FDR. Tongue

I genuinely don't think they are going to try to impeach her.

They don't have the votes for it and they cannot let this trial last for ever as one of the three republican judges would likely side with the democrats to force the senate trial to happen.

Not to mention that impeaching her would be one way to absolutely nationalize this issue going into the Presidential election, and I don't think that'd be a good look for the GOP.

That's one way to make every judicial race in the future hyper-partisan and high-turnout.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s GOP-controlled Legislature on Tuesday passed legislative maps that were proposed by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers — a move designed to prevent the liberal-controlled state Supreme Court from implementing maps that might be even worse for Republicans.

Republicans conceded defeat, while Democrats said they were afraid of being tricked.

“It pains me to say it, but Gov. Evers gets a huge win today,” Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said, adding that under the new maps, “the Legislature will be up for grabs.”

It will never not be hilarious that we're getting fair maps in Wisconsin because a boy asked a girl to prom.

What is the context of that?

In a private meeting with construction executive Tim Michels in April, Trump complained about a 2019 tweet by Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch in which she posted a picture of her daughter with the son of Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn.

The tweet showed the two teenagers dressed up in formal wear and headed to a high school homecoming event. A political ally then retweeted the post, suggesting it was the beginning of a "Hagedorn-Kleefisch political dynasty in Wisconsin."

Hagedorn, who ran as a conservative, has been criticized heavily by Republicans after being a swing vote in high-profile decisions involving pandemic-related restrictions andTrump's efforts to overturn Wisconsin's last presidential election. In response, Trump attacked the Wisconsin jurist on Twitter in late 2020.

"Trump was aware of these tweets" with the photo of Kleefisch and Hagedorn's children, said a source who was in the room during the Michels meeting. "And it bothered him."
