He destroyed any attempt at getting hispanic or non-white votes. I expect the polls over the next week will show Hillary back up a few points.

I disagree. He reached out to the black and Hispanic community with his message that illegal immigration distorts the job market.

Additionally, from an academic standpoint with the Hispanic vote, those who have been here for generations are more likely to vote for Trump than those that do not. I would not be shocked to see Trump get Romney levels plus a few points before all is said and done. The block is not as monolithic as the black vote.

Yes. Those racist red hacks like to generalize and think by some reason that all immigrants are against securing the border, wall and deportation of illegals. It is not true.

Dems were once screaming about idealogical tests. Then reality slashed them. According to polls, both Americans and immigrants approve this idea.

There was one person here who wrote that Trump had a fair amount of support among working class Latinos.  I suspect this speech and his new proposals might hurt him somewhat with them.

Also, I guess this means that his other recent attempts to reach out to minority voters are now inoperative.

I think my use of the word 'somewhat' should have indicated that I was thoroughly aware that not all Latinos think the same way.

I also don't think it's just a coincidence that support for Trump among blacks and Asians is at a record low for a Republican Presidential nominee according to the polls and I don't think his speech or his immigration proposals will help him with any outreach.

So, you might try reading what I actually write in the future.

It seems more like there is a gender gap than racial one. And according to recent polls, Trump is doing about equal with Romney, and certanly not worse than McCaine with non-Whites. => He's doing better than them with non-white men

So it is probably not about his immigration politics.

Me, Trump or both?

I will take a contrarian position and say that the overall effects of yesterday (meeting with Piena Neto and the Immigration speech) will probably help Trump.

1. He has managed to put to bed any concerns by his core supporters and will benefit in immediate campaign funding and increased (and enthusiastic) support in the run-up to the election.

2. His meeting with the Mexican president will reinforce his image as a "tough guy" with his supporters, while giving him the cloak of respectability and a viable argument to undecideds that Trump is a credible candidate and a valid choice in November.

3. The overall narrative from yesterday to many undecided (and politically uninformed racist) voters will  (unfortunately) be that it seems possible that Trump may be able to pull off what he is saying, and that his harebrained fascist ideas may actually work.
