Because the Republican Party has been drifting right faster than a drunk driver on the freeway.

This is why I still consider myself an independent despite endorsing far more Democrats than Republicans. My main objection is this ideological track that the GOP has been on. It seems like a lot of prominent Republican figures are either sceaming rightward or statically watching the party get there.
