John McCain's announcement speech in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - April 28th 2003

Thank you my friends. Thank you very much.

We are living dark times. While we made the right decision to send troops in Afghanistan in order to fight Al Qaida, we're struggling to find Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice. This is due to President Gore's weak leadership on foreign policy as well as to his decision, even after 9/11 (the worst attack that America has suffered in its history), to cut military spending, a decision that put many more American lives and innocent lives in danger around the world and that gave us further terrorist attacks committed here in the United States, especially in San Antonio and Los Angeles last year.

[Crowd boos]

We’re in a global struggle with violent extremists who despise us, our values and modernity itself. If we are to succeed, we must rethink and rebuild the structure and mission of our military; the capabilities of our intelligence and law enforcement agencies; the purposes of our alliances; the reach and scope of our diplomacy; the capacity of all branches of government to defend us. We need to increase our military spending and to modernize our military as well as our intelligence programs if we want to have all the necessary troops and arsenal to destroy Al Qaida, to find and kill or capture Bin Laden and to restore integrity, security, stability, freedom and democracy in Afghanistan. We need to intervene militarily in Iraq if we want to stop Saddam Hussein from getting weapons of mass destruction and to restore security and freedom in Iraq. We need to strengthen our alliances and build support in other nations, especially Pakistan and India in order to prevent the Middle East from becoming a terrorist haven and to save American lives as well as innocent lives all around the world.

We must also prepare, far better than we have, to respond quickly and effectively to another radical Islamic terrorist attack or natural calamity. When Americans confront a catastrophe, natural or man-made, they have a right to expect basic competence from their government. They won’t accept that firemen and policemen are unable to communicate with each other in an emergency because they don’t have the same radio frequency. They won’t accept government’s failure to deliver bottled water to dehydrated babies or rescue the infirm from a hospital with no electricity. They won’t accept substandard care and indifference for wounded veterans.

Government spends more money today than ever before. Wasteful spending on things that are not the business of government indebts us to other nations; deprives you of the fruits of your labor; fuels inflation; raises interest rates; and encourages irresponsibility.

No government program is the object of more political posturing than Social Security and Medicare. Here’s the plain truth : there are too few workers supporting too many retirees, and if we don’t make some tough choices today, Social Security and Medicare will go bankrupt or we’ll have to raise taxes so drastically we’ll crush the prosperity of average Americans. Too many politicians want to ignore the problem, and run for re-election by threatening anyone who wants to fix it.

Our tax code is used to game the system for some at the expense of the many instead of encouraging the thrift, investment, innovation and industry of all Americans. It’s complexity and waste costs Americans $140 billion in preparation and compliance costs each year.

Our dependence on foreign sources of energy not only harms our economy, it endangers our security. So much of the oil we import comes from countries in volatile regions of the world where our values aren’t shared and our interests aren’t a priority. We have to increase oil drilling by doubling permits on federal lands, multiplying the number of oil wells, exploiting oil resources, especially in ANWR and in the Arctic, and building more pipelines. That way, we will reinforce our energy independence, bring massive job creation, and help us getting important revenues, which a part will be invested into the development of renewable energies, which will pursue job creation without hurting the environment.

We’re not a country that prefers nostalgia to optimism. We’re not a country that would rather go back than forward. We’re the world’s leader, and leaders don’t pine for the past and dread the future. We make the future better than the past. Opening new markets to American goods and services is indispensable to our future prosperity. Lowering trade barriers creates more and better jobs; keeps inflation under control; keeps interest rates low; and makes more goods affordable to more Americans. We won’t compete successfully by using old technology to produce old goods. We’ll succeed by knowing what to produce and inventing new technologies to produce it.

Al Gore's big government policies and high taxes and regulations on businesses offshored some of American businesses overseas. If these policies keep going, our future business owners will decide that America is not the best place in the world to open a new business. We have to reverse this tendency by cutting taxes on all the American people, including for the middle class, and on businesses in order to ensure the implementation of new businesses here in America and to make sure that our businesses will be able to produce, sell and hire people.

Our prosperity is not based on big government intrusion but on the ingenuity and entrepreneurship and hard work of the American people. The American people have always been the source of our nation's strength and they always will be.

By accomplishing this agenda, we will finally balance our budget and ensure prosperity for all.

[Crowd cheers and applauds]

That's why, in order to accomplish this agenda that will lead America to prosperity, security and national unity, I came here in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to announce my candidacy for President of the United States.

[Crowd loudly cheers and applauds]

When I’m President I’ll offer common sense, conservative and comprehensive solutions to these challenges. Congress will have other ideas, and I’ll listen to them. I’ll work with anyone who is serious and sincere about solving these problems. I expect us to argue over principle, but when a compromise consistent with our principles is within reach, I expect us to seize it. Americans expect us to disagree, but not just to win the next election. They want us to serve the same goal: to ensure that a country blessed with our matchless prosperity, ingenuity, and strength can meet any challenge we confront.

I won’t judge myself by how many elections I’ve won, but by how well I keep my promises to you. To keep those promises, I can’t just win this election by a few votes in a few counties in a few states. I need a mandate from you big enough to convince Congress that Americans want this election to be different. You want to change the politics of selfishness, stalemate and delay; move this country forward and stake our claim on this century as we did in the last. Then I ask you for the opportunity to devote every day of my presidency to making this government work for you, and for a mandate big enough to get the job done.

I’ll challenge myself and each member of Congress to wake up each morning and ask ourselves : will we remember today as the finest day of our public life; the day we worked just for you, not for us? And I’ll challenge the American people to reject phony soundbite solutions that have failed us in the past, and hold us accountable for the work you have given us.

We face formidable challenges, but I’m not afraid of them. I’m prepared for them. I’m not the youngest candidate. But I am the most experienced. I know how the military works, what it can do, what it can do better, and what it should not do. I know how Congress works, and how to make it work for the country and not just the re-election of its members. I know how the world works. I know the good and the evil in it. I know how to work with leaders who share our dreams of a freer, safer and more prosperous world, and how to stand up to those who don’t. I know how to fight and how to make peace. I know who I am and what I want to do.

I don’t seek the office out of a sense of entitlement. I owe America more than she has ever owed me. Thirty years ago, I came home from an extended absence abroad. While I was away, I fell in love with my country. I learned that what’s good for America, is good enough for me. I have been an imperfect servant of my country ever since, in uniform and in office, in war and peace. I have never lived a single day, in good times or in bad, that I haven’t thanked God for the privilege.

You can’t sell me on hopelessness. You can’t convince me our problems are insurmountable. Our challenges are an opportunity to write another chapter of American greatness. We must seize it, and those of us privileged to lead America must remember the principles that made us great, have the faith to stand by them, the integrity to honor our public trust, and the courage to keep our promise to put the nation’s interests before our own. Don’t tell me what we can’t do. Don’t tell me we can’t make our country stronger, and the world safer. We can. We must. And when I’m President we will.

[Crowd cheers and applauds]

I’m not running for President to be somebody, but to do something; to do the hard but necessary things not the easy and needless things. I’m running for President to protect our country from harm and defeat its enemies. I’m running for President to make the government do its job, not your job; to do it with less and to do it better. I’m not running to leave our biggest problems to an unluckier generation of leaders, but to fix them now, and fix them well. I’m running for President to make sure America maintains its place as the political and economic leader of the world; the country that doesn’t fear change, but makes change work for us; the country that doesn’t long for the good old days, but aspires to even better days. I’m running for President of the United States; not yesterday’s country; not a defeated country; not a bankrupt country; not a timid and frightened country; not a country fragmented into bickering interest groups with no sense of the national interest; not a country with a bloated, irresponsible and incompetent government. I’m running for President of the United States, a blessed country, a proud country, a hopeful country, the most powerful and prosperous country and the greatest force for good on earth. And when I’m President, I intend to keep it so.

Thank you, God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

[Crowd loudly cheers and applauds]

Let's pray. Until then, why does GoTFan always choose Feingold? I'm curious

Actually it's MycroftCZ who selected Feingold.

This election is one of the most crucial ones in our nation's history. In these times of high unemployment caused by Al Gore's promotion of big government, higher taxes, higher regulations that made America a harder place to do business, we can't afford to get this election wrong. Because if we get this election wrong, it might be too late for America. We can't let that happen. As Ronald Reagan has said, government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem.

That is why I pledge to cut taxes and regulations for all Americans, including the middle class, and for all businesses across this country, including small businesses because most of the jobs come from small businesses. That way, we're going to reinforce their ability to innovate, to grow, to expand and to create goog-paying jobs. I also take the pledge to pursue our quest for open markets through the promotion of free trade, to encourage oil drilling and to allow America to take advantage of all of its sources of energy, to reform our education system and to balance the budget.

This election might be our last chance to get America back in the right direction and that's why I'm asking for your vote for the sake of a stronger economy, for more jobs and a fairer America.

My friends, we're living dangerous times in which the terrorist has become stronger than ever before. Even though we took military action against Al Qaeda after 9/11, President Gore has not given all the necessary efforts to find and kill Osama Bin Laden and destroy Al Qaeda. He reduced our defense budget and thus he deprived our army and our allies of the arsenal and troops we need to fight radical Islamic terrorism. He's been proven to be weak on foreign policy and counter-terrorism.

And worse, we've got Saddam Hussein's Iraq who is seeking to get weapons of mass destruction in addition of giving sanctuary to jihadists like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a terrorist who was involved in the millennium plot, a terrorist attempt to commit bombing attacks against tourist sites in Jordan as well as against the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the USS The Sullivans in the context of millennium celebrations. We've got Iran who is none other than the biggest state-sponsor of terrorism in the world and is seeking to get nuclear weapons and we've got North Korea is also sponsoring terrorist groups while developping nuclear weapons that could eventually wipe Hawaii, Alaska and the Western Coast off the map. These 3 countries are forming the Axis of Evil.

I proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and I am now serving in the U.S. Senate Committee on Intelligence as well as in the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services. Among all the actual Republican presidential candidates, I have the right experience to keep America safe and to defeat radical Islamic terrorism. As President, I will increase our defense budget in order to reinforce and modernize our military, I will strengthen our alliances and I will deploy all the necessary military troops and arsenal to defeat Al Qaeda and to find and capture or kill Bin Laden. If necessary, we will topple Saddam Hussein in order to make sure that they won't get WMDs and that Iraq will not be a safe haven for terrorism. Under my leadership, military action against Iran will not be taken-off the table, but it will be the last option. Thanks to stronger sanctions against Iran, Tehran will finally understand that its uranium should be used to grow Iran's economy and create jobs for Iranians, not to develop nuclear weapons.

Thanks to my experience and leadership, we will finally defeat radical Islamic terrorism, get America and the entire world to victory against this evil and get us to peace through strength. That's why I ask for your vote. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.

John McCain's response to Jack Kemp's ad

I don't know where Jack Kemp takes his references but his claims are totally false. There's never been a time in my life in which I voted in favor of tax increases on the American peopleand on businesses. I'm proud to be a conservative Republican. I am proud to be a foot soldier of the Reagan Revolution. I have always voted to cut taxes and regulations on the American people just like I always voted to cut wasteful government spending. I would never have supported President Gore's tax and big government policies that made America a harder place to do business and killed jobs.

I voted YES to implement broad-based tax cuts, I voted YES on phasing out the estate tax, I voted YES on eliminating the marriage penalty tax and I supported the Small Business Impact Analyses Amendment of 1995 that was aimed at blocking regulations on small businesses.

I have great respect for Jack, but he's telling calumnious lies about me, claiming that I am an agent to get President Gore re-elected. That is simply not true and he knows that very well. Jack has decided to use the same dirty-trick campaign style used by George W. Bush against me in South Carolina four years ago. But this time it will not work because people know that everything he said is not true. I'm sorry that Jack doesn't have the reputation of a straight talker like myself.

I find it strange that Jack attacks me on taxes because in 1988 Jack opposed a balanced budget constitutional amendment just like he opposed right-to-work laws. In addition, 10 years ago, he criticized Bob Dole and his tax increase of 1982, declaring that it was the biggest tax increase in the history of the world. And yet he accepted to be Dole's running mate in 1996.

So the bottom line, Jack, is that if there's a tax and spend Liberal promoting big government in the Republican field it's you, not me.

I'm the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce. I know what it takes to grow this economy and create jobs, which requires the promotion of small government and free market. So my friends, if you want a real conservative who will bring the government at its lowest size in history, cut taxes for all Americans and for businesses, make America the best place in the world to do business, balance the budget, adopt a balanced budget amendment and reduce government spending I'm asking for your vote.

John McCain for President 2004 - Country First
Campaign schedule August 15-August 28 2003, Part 1

August 15-16
-Senate duties in Washington D.C.

August 17
-Flight to Spartanburg, South Carolina
-Meet with voters in Spartanburg, South Carolina with Lindsey Graham
-Economic policy speech at QS/1 Data Systems headquarters in Spartanburg, South Carolina with Lindsey Graham
-Foreign policy speech in Spartanburg, South Carolina with Lindsey Graham Sad

So, recently our brave men and women in uniform stopped North Korea's attempt to deliver nuclear arms to Saddam Hussein's Iraq. That clearly demonstrates that Iraq is seeking to get weapons of mass destruction in order to attack the United States as well as our allies and to provide terrorists of such weapons. That clearly demonstrates that we can't afford to be inactive and passive. We have to take action against Iraq. Even Vice-President Joe Lieberman believes that we should take on Saddam Hussein militarily in order to make sure that Iraq won't ever be a safe haven for terrorism. And yet, President Gore is still not listening to the American people who is getting tired of his weak foreign policy that deprived our troops of the necessary effectives and arsenal they need to combat radical Islamic terrorism through cuts in the defense budget.

As a Vietnam War veteran, as a member of the U.S. Committee on Armed Services and of the U.S. Committee on Intelligence, I know what it takes to make sure America will win the War on Terrorism. We need to increase our defense budget in order to reinforce and modernize our military, increase the FBI's counter-terrorism budget, strengthen our alliances, strike terrorists wherever they are, establish background checks on militia groups in the Middle East before arming them and take on Al Qaeda's oil refineries. By reinforcing our military collaboration with Pakistan, we and our allies will surround and overwhelm terrorists in the Afghan-Pakistani border regions and terrorists will have a choice to make : surrender or die. By doing so, we're going to find and kill Osama Bin Laden. By intervening in Iraq and by toppling Saddam Hussein, we're going to make sure that there won't be any WMD there, that terrorists won't get such weapons and that Iraq won't be a refuge for terrorists. Freedom, justice and democracy will be restored, Iraq will be restored and will become a terrific partner for us in our fight against radical Islamic terrorism.

We can't afford 4 more years of weakness and I'm the only one who can turn the page on these four dark years.

-Meet with voters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
-Free enterprise policy speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
-Counter-terrorism policy speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
-Economic policy speech at Harley-Davidson headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in an effort to attract Phil Bredesen's supporters Sad

As we can see, even though we disagree with Governor Phil Bredesen on some issues, his presidential candidacy as well as his challenge to Al Gore is giving a great opportunity for the Republican Party. You know why? Because just like us, Governor Bredesen seeks to reduce taxes for the American people and for businesses in order to facilitate job creation and declared that he wanted to ensure that America will take advantage of its own sources of energy, including coal, oil, gas, solar, wind, hydroelectricity, etc. So Bredesen's economic agenda is really similar to our party's economic beliefs. He is running on the right of Al Gore. But Bredesen doesn't have a path to the Democratic nomination. He has no chance to prevail. But when Governor Bredesen will lose the race for the Democratic nomination, his supporters will be so angered due to their unsatisfaction towards Gore's big government policies that increased taxes and regulations on businesses and on the American people, declared war on America's energy industry, decreased America's competitiveness in the global economy, killed hundreds of thousands of American jobs and raised our unemployment rate to 6.8 %. As a result, they could shift parties and possibly become the next Reagan Democrats.

We need to be a pro-growth party as well as a pro free enterprise party and that's how we're going to attract Bredesen's supporters because that's how we're going to rebuild the Reagan Coalition that has been strengthened thanks to the support of the Reagan Democrats that helped Ronald Reagan to make a strong performance in the Midwest, including here in Wisconsin, and to win 2 consecutive presidential elections by landslides.

Unlike Al Gore, I will cut taxes and regulations for all Americans, including the middle class and lower income Americans, and for all businesses, including small businesses. That way, we're going to reinforce our fellow Americans' purchasing power as well as their ability to raise their families and we're going to reinforce our businesses' dynamism, ingenuity, competitiveness and ability to create jobs. Approximately 70 % of jobs in America are created in small businesses and that's why I take the pledge to make America the best place in the world to do business. Unlike Al Gore, I will promote free trade in order to increase America's competitiveness in the world economy, to allow us to trade with 95 % of international consumers while we are representing 5 %, to reduce tariffs as well as the cost of American products and thus making them more accessible for international consumers. I will also make sure that the trade deals signed under my presidency will be fair for Americans and I will do so by reducing taxes and regulations on our manufacturing industry, which will allow us to keep our manufacturing jobs and to bring our lost manufacturing jobs back home, and by lowering our corporate tax rate from 35 % to 20 %. That's how free trade will create good-paying jobs here in the United States. Unlike Al Gore, I will end his war on coal by abolishing regulations on our coal industry, which will bring coal mining jobs back home and promote the development of clean coal technologies. I will abolish Gore's regulations on our oil industry, double permits and liscenses on public lands and encourage the construction from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, which will create over 3 million American jobs. Under a McCain Administration, we will invest a part of the revenues from oil drilling into the development of renewable energies which will not only further accelerate job creation but also give us a clean environment. And I will balance the budget by cutting wasteful government spending and adopting a balanced budget amendment. That way, we can get our national debt under control and reduce it. As the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, I have the required experience to grow this economy and create jobs for Americans, which requires putting the government at its lowest size in history.

By campaigning on that program, I will be able to attract Governor Bredesen's supporters who will be ready, just like the Reagan Democrats, to get America back on the right direction thanks to the promotion of free enterprise and free market. That way, the Reagan Coalition will finally be back stronger than ever before, we will win this presidential election and finally make the U.S. economy great again!

John McCain's response to Phil Bredesen in Cincinnati, Ohio

Governor Bredesen took every single word of my speech out of context. Governor, I never called your supporters party traitors and I never considered them as tools. I know they are all as proud to be Americans as I am. And yes, what I promised will work because I have demonstrated over and over again my ability to bring Republicans and Democrats together in order to get things done. Because I'm a proud champion of free enterprise and smaller government and because I have the best foreign policy experience to defeat radical Islamic terrorism, which is a something that you don't have. As the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, I know what it takes to encourage job creation and to restore America's economic strength.

And Governor, it's a lie to say that I don't care about America  and you know this. I deeply care about America. You know why? Because I always put my country first before my own interests and before my party's interests. No wonder that people consider me as a maverick. That's why I proudly served America in the U.S. Navy and took part in the Vietnam War. That's why, after accomplishing combat missions, when I was shut down, captured and tortured by the Vietcong I refused early release because I didn't want to encourage communist propaganda. I was prepared to die for America in Vietnam because I would prefer having been killed in Vietnam rather than promoting communist propaganda by accepting early release, which resulted to five more years of imprisonment and torture there. So I put my country first. That's why I broke from party lines in order to promote campaign finance reform when your opponent Senator Russ Feingold and I successfully passed the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law officially known as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 in order to regulate the financing of political campaigns, thus restoring integrity in our electoral system. That's why I wrote the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission after the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001 in order to prevent further terrorist attacks against the United States. And that's why I supported our military intervention against terrorists in Afghanistan in order to keep America safe and to defeat this evil for the sake of freedom, peace and justice. You should be ashamed of yourself, Governor, for questionning my patriotism and my willigness and ability to care about our beloved country called America and about the American people.

So my friends, if you want a President who will always put America first then I am your man.

Abortion is unacceptable because it means murder of innocent unborn lives. That's why I oppose abortion except for in case of rape, incest and life of the mother. We should promote adoptions instead of killing unborn babies. That is the clear alternative to abortion. I've seen enough killing in my life, especially in Vietnam. Every life is precious. I'm a living proof of this matter of fact because 12 years ago Cindy and I adopted a three-month-old Bangladeshi girl that needed medical treatment and lost her two parents who died at that time and thus was an orphan. Then we decided to adopt her and we named her Bridget. I'm a strong champion of the promotion of life. I believe one of the fundamental rights that God gave to us is the right to live. Every human life must be protected by the Constitution of the United States. That way, we will lead our country to appreciate life and we will make sure that we will give to every American the priviledge to experience opportunity and to live the American Dream.

In an effort to attract Hispanic voters, John McCain pledges to secure America's borders and then reform America's broken immigration system in order to give immigrants a path to citizenship, which would reinforce America's workforce. Since Hispanics are among the ethnic groups mostly affected by the effects of America's actual economic downturn, McCain also promised to cut taxes on all the American people, including Hispanics, and to promote free trade with Latin America in order to give American businesses, including businesses owned by Hispanics due to their fluency in English and Spanish, new opportunities to innovate, to increase their competitiveness, to get new consumers by giving them access to American products, to create jobs in our country and ensure their business' expansion. Thanks to their bilingualism, Hispanics will be dominant among the importers, exporters, translators and executives who ensure such a cultural and commercial exchange.

John McCain's TV Ad - Experience

Airs Nationwide (in all the 50 states)

Narrator : America is living difficult times. We are living a time of economic downturn marked by a rise of unemployment rate to almost 7 % due to the Third Oil Crisis and also due to President Gore's big government policies that increased taxes and regulations on the American people and on businesses across the country and killed hundreds of thousands of jobs, declared war on America's energy industry, diminished America's competitiveness in the world economy and drastically increased the national debt.

Not so long after 9/11, President Gore didn't give enough efforts to defeat Al Qaeda and global terrorism and deprived us of the necessary tools and arsenal to do so by cutting in our defense budget, which lowered our military's size and made America and its allies easier targets for terrorists, including Al Qaeda, and gave us further terrorist attacks against our nation, including in Los Angeles and San Antonio. He gave up our allies and are now on their own against terrorists in addition of allowing Saddam Hussein's Iraq to get weapons of mass destruction.

But it is not too late to fix America. And there's only one man who has the knowledge and experience to do so and to lead our country in these times of uncertainty. This man is John McCain.

John McCain proudly served our nation in the U.S. Navy and took part of the Vietnam War. After accomplishing combat missions, his warplane was shut down by the Vietcongs, became a PWO, refused early release in order not to encourage communist propaganda and was tortured for 5 years.

Then he came back to our country and ran for Congress as a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution before being elected to the U.S. Senate, a passage during which he supported all the efforts given by the Reagan Administration to win the Cold War, helped the United States to normalize their relations with Vietnam and wrote the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in order to ensure the adoption of the necessary measures to prevent further terrorist attacks against the United States.

With such a background and with his experience as a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services and of the U.S. Senate Committee on Intelligence, John McCain has all the experience needed to fight and defeat radical Islamic terrorism and to keep America safe. He will do so by increasing the FBI's counter-terrorism budget, by reinforcing and modernizing our homeland security measures, rising our budget defense in order to reinforce and modernize our military and to ensure our troops' readiness, standing with our allies and expanding our alliances, striking terrorists wherever they are through our military force, arming the right groups in the Middle East through background checks, recapturing Al Qaeda's oil refineries and imposing all the necessary sanctions against rogue nations in order to stop them from getting weapons of mass destruction or nuclear missiles.

As the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, John McCain knows what it takes to grow the economy and create jobs. He will do so by cutting taxes and regulations for all Americans, including the middle class and lower income Americans, and for all businesses, including small businesses, by promoting free trade in order to increase America's competitiveness in the world economy, by abolishing regulations on our coal industry and on our oil industry, doubling permits and liscenses on public lands and encouraging the construction of a pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, by investing a part of the revenues from oil drilling into the development of renewable energies which will not only further accelerate job creation but also give us a clean environment and by reducing government spending and vetoing any bill aimed at increasing spending.

Among all the actual presidential candidates, John McCain is the most experienced and the most qualified to be President of the United States. He will always put America first and thanks to his experience, judgement, courage and leadership, America will finally retrieve its unity, safety and prosperity.

John McCain for a strong America and for a strong American leadership for the 21st Century.

Wait did Reagan know what was going on in 2003?

I don't think so. He died in 04, so it's best to not have his Endorsement count.

Agreed. Unfortunately he was too dementied

Okay, it won't count. At least I have Nancy Reagan's endorsement.

John McCain for President 2004 - Country First
Campaign schedule August 29-September 11 2003, Part 1

August 29

-Born on August 29 1936, John McCain celebrates his 67th birthday with his family and supporters Phoenix, Arizona.

August 30
-Flight to Simi Valley, California
-Meet with voters in Simi Valley, California with Nancy Reagan
-Rally with voters at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California where Nancy Reagan announces her endorsement to John McCain Sad

Good morning, my friends. In these times of uncertainty, this election is clearly the most crucial ones in our lifetime. America is now living a very similar situation to era before my husband became President of the United States. Our economy is weakening due to a new oil crisis and to the increase of the size of government. And our country is facing strong terrorist threat since the last 2 years and yet we did not give enough efforts to defeat this evil. Now America has a choice, four years of economic downturn and terrorist threat or a path to prosperity and security and freedom. And there is one man among the Republican field who has the experience and determination. And that's why I am proud to endorse Senator John McCain.

[Crowd cheers and applauds]

Just like my husband was, John is not the youngest candidate in the field. But age should not be a campaign issue and John is not going to exploit for political purposes his rivals' youth and inexperience.

[Laughter]

Ronald and I had the chance to know John over the last 30 years, when he was a POW and came back from the Vietnam War after proudly serving our country in the U.S. Navy.  Then, during Ronald Reagan's presidency, John ran for Congress and for Senate when he demonstrated his championship towards the Reaganomics that cut taxes and spending, grew the economy, reduced inflation and created 16 million new jobs during the 8 years of my Ronald Reagan's presidency. Like my husband said, government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem. Senator McCain knows what it takes to handle economic issues and as President he will do it by lowering the size of government, cutting taxes as well as regulations and spending, getting America to energy  independence, encouraging free trade and making America the best place in the world to do business. As a combat veteran and as a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Intelligence and of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, John knows how to defend our nation and defeat our enemies and he will do it by rebuilding our military through an increase of our defense budget, which will grow and reinforce our military arsenal and effectives, by reinforcing our alliances and by going after terrorists. That's how we're going to keep America safe and win the War on Terror just like we won the Cold War during my presidency.

John McCain is a man with the character and the stubborn kind of integrity that we need in a President. He is by far the most prepared, the most experienced, and truly the most tested presidential candidate. He is ready to be Commander-in-Chief, to keep our nation safe and prosperous. That's why I'm here to officially announce my endorsement to John McCain, the next President of the United States of America. Let's Make America Great Again with President John McCain.

If you Haven't had him as an endorsement already, you can have George H. W. Bush to replace Reagan

It could be, especially if Jeb remains absent on the campaign trail. After all, Bush was Reagan's Vice-President.

Throughout this campaign, Jack Kemp has demonstrated that his main target is not Al Gore, but my husband John McCain. Mr. Kemp is basing campaign on character diffamation and character assassination by basing his attacks on false accusations, claiming that he voted to raise taxes and funded terrorist groups. He launches dirty trick attacks against my husband in order to make him look bad. He has proven that he has absolutely no respect for him.

[Crowd boos]

I'm sick and tired of the defamation of John McCain by Mr. Kemp's nasty campaign. John is a good and decent man of big heart, patriotism and integrity who values every single American from the bottom to the top. He always put America first. He is a great and loving father and husband. John and I decided to adopt an orphan from Bengladesh who needed medical help. He voted to expand the Reagan tax cuts and opposed any tax increase policy adopted by presidents George Bush, Bill Clinton and Al Gore. As a young man, he proudly fought for America in Vietnam where he became a POW. He fought to keep our military strong and he wrote the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission in order to prevent any terrorist attacks against the United States. He has the best experience and leadership to restore America's prosperity and national security.

John has always fought for what is right and he will be a great President.

Over 80 % of Nevada's territory is under the federal government's control. That is causing trouble for the people of Nevada, killing tens of thousands of jobs, weakening Nevadans' purchasing power and undermining free enterprise as well as the American Dream. The people of Nevada is struggling to find good-paying jobs. These are all reasons why we must promote free market and free enterprise, which are the real solutions to the problems. This will get Nevada and all America working again. I will do it by reducing the size of government as well as government spending, cutting taxes and regulations for all Americans and businesses across the country, abolishing the IRS and replace it by a 15 % flat tax, adopting a balanced budget amendment and making America the best place in the world to do business through a corporate tax reduction from 40 % to 20 %, which will allow Nevadans and all Americans across the nation to be successful and prosperous here on the land of opportunity.

John McCain's response to Mike Huckabee in Columbia, South Carolina

So, I just heard Governor Huckabee questioning my foreign policy experience.

[Crowd laughs]

Yeah, it's pretty laughable to hear that. Well let me remind you, Governor, that not only I fought the Vietnam War but I'm also a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services since 1986, when I was elected in the Senate, so I know what it takes to keep America safe, which requires keeping our military strong and making it even stronger, which I will do as president of the United States. Since ten years, I'm chairing  the International Republican Institute that has the purpose of advancing democracy worldwide. In the 1990s, I investigated the Vietnam War POW/MIA issue, to determine the fate of U.S. service personnel listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War. Thanks to my diplomatic efforts combined with those given by John Kerry, the United States normalized their relations with Vietnam. After the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, I wrote the legislature that created the 9/11 Commission that has the objective of making sure our country will take all the necessary measures to prevent any further terrorist attacks against the United States. And I'm also the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, so I know how to handle trade issues in order to strengthen our economy as well as our trade ties with our allies around the world. All of that explains why I'm a foreign policy expert. So the bottom line is among the actual presidential candidates, I'm the most prepared to correct Al Gore's mess, to handle foreign policy issues, to fight and defeat Al Qaeda and international radical Islamic terrorism and to keep America safe.

John McCain Campaign Attack Ad : On the Wrong Side

The ad airs in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Wyoming, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Alaska, California, New York, Minnesota, Ohio and Florida

Ad narration Sad

In the last two decades, Jack Kemp has been on the wrong side of defense issues.

In 1987, he opposed the INF Treaty that was ratified by President Reagan and eliminated the USSR's intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles, which helped America to win the Cold War.

Kemp also opposed airstrikes against Iraq in the 1990s in addition of opposing the Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998 while we all know that Saddam Hussein has provided bases to Islamic extremist terrorist groups like Mujahedin-e-Khalq, the Abu Nidal Organization (a faction of the Palestinian Liberation Organization) and the Palestine Liberation Front that is openly anti-Israel.

In addition, Saddam Hussein gave sanctuary to radical Islamic terrorists like Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas (who was directly responsible for the death of Leon Klinghoffer, an American Jew abroad the Achille Lauro) and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist who was involved in the millennium plot, a terrorist attempt to commit bombing attacks against tourist sites in Jordan as well as against the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the USS The Sullivans in the context of millennium celebrations. After that, al-Zarqawi trained jihadists in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

So Jack Kemp's record clearly demonstrated that he has been on the wrong side of national security issues and defense issues. He can't be trusted to keep our nation safe and to win the War on Terror.

But John McCain has a clear and great record of fighting for what is right. He has the right foreign policy experience, knowledge, leadership and judgement to fight and defeat radical Islamic terrorism and to keep us safe.

He proudly fought our country in the Vietnam War, he's serving in the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, voted time and time again to keep our military strong, supported the Patriot Act in order to reinforce our national security after 9/11, supported our troops in Afghanistan, wrote the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission aimed at preventing any further terrorist attacks against America and successfully sponsored a senate resolution welcoming the expression of support from the European Union for Iraq's full compliance with Security Council Resolution 1441, and their solidarity with the United States in calling for the demands of the Security Council to be met with regard to Iraq's full disarmament.

President John McCain will increase our defense budget in order to reinforce and modernize our military, stand with our allies, go after terrorists through our military strength and stand against any rogue nation supporting terrorism and threatening America's national security. He will do so by arming the right insurgent groups, including the Kurds.

John McCain is a unifier and a leader and he is ready to be Commander-in-Chief for the sake of America's victory in the War on Terror and America's security.

John McCain for a better, stronger, freer and safer America.

John McCain : I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

Other than the corrupt former OP, NOTTYLER has already ruined this thread and technically the entire board.

I guess when UWS saw that we didn't like him being biased with 2020, he decided to ruin the fun for everyone. Really petty, iyam.

Its still not proven that NOTTYLER is a sock of UWS, but its highly likely.

NOTTYLER signed up in another election game,, and then hours later UWS asked if he could jump in. Mighty suspicious if you ask me.

No, I only asked when the Iowa caucuses would be updated. That's all.
